At the time, as I recall, Brazillia was the subject of praise heaped on praise. Not only was the city plan praised but individual structures were held up for their architectural design.

They tore down the most beautiful skyscraper in Manhattan, which was Second Empire, the Singer Building. Until the Twin Towers came down (just a block or so away from where the Singer stood until the late ‘60s), it was the tallest skyscraper ever demolished (and was briefly the tallest skyscraper in America).
