What does the Bible actually mean with regard to ‘Believing on Him’?
Is it just the sacrificed God-Man upon whom we should believe, or should we put our faith in what He taught?
It seems to me that plenty of people believe that they are saved because ‘some might-have-been historical person’died for them’. while they go along being mean, egotistical and hateful.
Jesus gave us plenty of instruction as to how we must behave, in order to be ‘saved’. I’m especially fond of the Sermon on the Mount.
I don’t think one needs to belong to any particular ‘religion’ to find that sermon valuable and a good guide for life on Earth.
Agree....and this seems to settle it too:
“Jesus answered, I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”
John 14:6.
“We dont need stupid little people on Earth making Gods decisions for Him.”
Well, stop trying, then.
Same reason as usual:
Support independent journalism.
I just read the stuff, and try applying it to my personal life.
I don’t take it upon myself to decide who is ‘saved ‘ or ‘condemned’.
I had no problem reading it.
The Jews had a witness from the Son of God himself, and have had witnesses of the Son of God for almost 2000 years. During that time, many Jews have come to obey his witness, and be born again. There were over 3000 Jews converted to the life in Christ on the first day that God poured out his Spirit; as was prophesied by his prophets.
If God gives you a witness, there is no excuse.
Jews arnt damned. They are Gods chosen people. They will have to answer to Moses. Accepting Christ is just an easier path to heaven, but eventually all will be accountable to Christ under final judgement.
No, I didn’t read it all. Did a man who was a great “pretender”, ever condemn abortion, sexual misconduct of all kinds, voting for democrats, etc.?
Movie ticket sales made him a rich man on earth. That has nothing to do with the kingdom of heaven. That’s the big picture.
Whatever.
I think that God is a lot bigger than your puny human understanding of Him and his Word.
Jesus addressed the disbelief of the Jews who had him before their very eyes too:
“The men of Nineveh will stand up at the judgment with this generation and condemn it; for they repented at the preaching of Jonah, and now something greater than Jonah is here.”
Matt 12:41
Wonderful story about a really great and colorful character, even if it was in the Slimes. Thanks for posting it.
When you are Jewish, you have HaShem, and dont need anyone else. HaShem, and ONLY HaShem is G-d.
Thats fine if you dont believe that the entirety of the 4 gospels is an impermissible addition to the Torah. But if you are a believing Jew, you know it is, and you are quite fine dealing only with HaShem and what He handed to Moses and the Prophets. You can quote whatever you want from John or anyone else, but it doesnt even show up on a Jews radar screen.
I read the article in full without signing in.
FYI, we Jews will not answer to Moses, but to his (and our) G-d. Jews believe in NO intermediaries between people and G-d. Moses was a very, very holy man...but still a man. The Bible details one of his failings that prevented him from entering Israel, even though he wanted that more than anything else in this world.
Probably the most sensible comment on this thread, FRiend Bommer. Observant Jews are simply following an older tradition, just like Catholics and Orthodox. I may not agree but their ultimate destination in the afterlife is God’s will, not mine.
I’m guided by Luther’s belief that we are ultimately saved by faith, not faith and works. Good works are a manifestation of our faith.
On both a scriptural and common sense basis, placing faith and works on the same footing puts the faithful in danger of becoming like the pharisee in Luke 18.
In an age of narcissism, a do-gooder mentality is positively deadly to genuine Christian charity.
You can quote the gospels until the cows come home, but to a Jew they are as meaningful as Nietzches claim that G-d is dead.
So long as you or anyone else abides by the 7 Noahide laws, then you have a place in Heaven - but please dont tell the Jews that they are all condemned (to Hell, obviously) because we dont believe that a mere man can be even close to G-d, let alone equal to Him. By doing so, you are claiming that G-d lied to the Jews and everyone else who believes in the Jewish Bible...and G-d is not a man that he needs to lie or deceive.
You stated that “Jews believe in NO intermediaries between people and G-d.”...
Then why are they still looking for their Messiah out of the Davidic line to be the redeemer of the Jewish people?
