An explosion at a northwest Houston business shook part of the city early Friday, sending at least one person to a hospital, damaging nearby homes and sending firefighters scrambling to put out a resulting fire.
The blast -- which occurred at Watson Grinding and Manufacturing, according to CNN affiliate KTRK -- happened around 4:15 a.m. local time (5:15 a.m. ET) in the 4500 block of Gessner Road, about an 18-mile drive northwest of downtown, authorities said.
Video posted to Twitter from a camera that was mounted to a home window appears to show the blast in the distance, followed by a rising fireball.

I think they were a blog manufacturer. Some of the raw materials used in blogs can be highly unstable.
I’ve got a lemon tree that sometimes dumps lemons
onto the roof, I figured it had let loose a clump of them.
You don’t want to pile blog material too high or deep. It can be quite explosive.
They have a website: watsongrinding.com which says they not only do precision grinding, but also do coatings of various types, etc. That may be a clue as to what exploded and caught fire.

I heard on the radio that it was a propylene tank.
Good work, Watson. In a former life I worked at a place that made highspeed dental hand pieces; drills. Components of the little air turbines were finish-ground. We held tolerances of +/- 50 millionths of an inch; or .000050. A half of a ten-thousandth. But all that grinding was done with coolant running over it.
My brother lives 1/4 mile from blast site, significant property damage, He and sister-in-law are OK. I wonder if things are going look worse in the light day and when crews go door to door.
