Rep. Elijah Cummings left $1 million in campaign funds when he died. His treasurer says he had a plan for it

WASHINGTON — The late U.S. Rep. Elijah Cummings of Baltimore left $1 million in unspent campaign funds, according to election records. That raised an unanswered question: What happens to all that money now?

In Washington, the campaign accounts of deceased and former lawmakers can legally stay active for years. Under federal election rules, the “Cummings for Congress Campaign Committee” is permitted to contribute - within certain limits - to federal, state or local candidates, political party committees or political action committees. That’s a course that many other congressional campaign accounts have taken.

But Cummings, a Democratic House leader known for his dedication to civil rights and to Baltimore, had other ideas, according to one of his chief political aides.

Before his death Oct. 17, Cummings expressed that he wanted the unspent funds donated to youth programs, such as those helping needy students pay for college, campaign treasurer Ronald Thompson said in an email to The Baltimore Sun.

Cummings’ widow, Maya Rockeymoore Cummings, said it would be premature to comment on the leftover funds, and the committee’s political director, Carla Farrington, said the campaign had “no further comment on this matter.”

Back in Sept 2019, Fox News reported then-Chairman Elijah Cummings, Democrat-Md, apparently authorized at least two tax-paid committee staff trips to Mexico in August 2019 — one of which required Border Patrol agents to provide a special escort back into the U.S.

CONG JIM JORDAN WRITES CUMMINGS: “.....you have the authority to direct Committee staff to travel internationally on official committee business, yet you have not explained (A) why you authorized tax-paid travel to Mexico or (B) what you sought to learn through these trips,” adding that Republicans were not notified of the trips.

WASHINGTON EXAMINER REPORT: [Cummings’ wife Maya] Rockeymoore runs two entities, a nonprofit group called the Center for Global Policy Solutions and a for-profit consulting firm called Global Policy Solutions, LLC, whose operations appear to have overlapped, according to the IRS complaint filed by watchdog group the National Legal and Policy Center on Monday. The complaint states that the arrangement may have been used to derive “illegal private benefit.”

Global Policy Solutions received more than $6.2 million in grants between 2013 and 2016, according to tax records. Several of the nonprofit group’s financial backers — which included Google, J.P Morgan and Prudential — have business interests before the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform. Cummings has served as Democratic chairman of the committee since January and previously served as ranking member.

NARRATIVE: It is very common for shysters in business to open bank accounts with similar names as the legit business in order o siphon off money to hide it from partners, associates, investors, the IRS, etc.Here's how Cummings and his wife siphoned off huge amounts for themselves.

Keep in mind, the private company, unlike the N/P, is exempt from reporting all of their significant expenditures like he n/p does

SIPHONINGS A CINCH Just put checks into the new accounts with similar names, depositing checks that were made out to the original entity. Even your bank advises that if a check-writer “mis-spelled” your name, to just endorse the check with the correct name.

AND PRESTO: a check made out to N/P Global Policy Solutions, is deposited in the for profit Global Policy Solutions LLC account.

Some might ask how the IRS might close-down M/M Cummings’ gold mine of a scam. AFAIK, each bank records every check that is presented to its system-——as well, the front and back of each check are copied. That means if the Cummings deposited checks made out to the n/p into its consulting account, the bank would have all of that recorded.

NFL Linebacker Jack Brewer and Trump

ABC-NEWS ---- President Trump’s criticism of Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-MD) over the living conditions in Baltimore were reportedly brought up at the request of former NFL player Jack Brewer. "I had a chance to meet with President Trump, and I told him please call out Elijah Cummings and Baltimore. I asked him to do that three weeks ago and he did it," the former NFL linebacker said on Fox Nation’s “Deep Dive.” Brewer explained he was motivated to reach out to Trump after a visit to Baltimore.

“I'm seeing these kids that don't have any core, no culture within them. They don't have anyone teaching them or training them," he said.

Brewer, who went on to a successful business career after his playing days, blames the politicians in Baltimore for focusing only on "issues that help them raise money," instead of the issues plaguing the "poor black kids whose parents are not donating to their PACs and funds." Brewer called out Cummings directly for being "front and center" when it's politically convenient and questioned his lack of action in his own city.

Referencing the two horrific mass shootings that took 31 lives, he questioned why the 51 people shot in Baltimore and Chicago the same weekend went unnoticed. "We look and see all the hype over El Paso, my heart goes out to them, my heart goes out to Dayton, Ohio. But the same weekend, 51 people were shot between Chicago and Baltimore and no one says anything and these are the same lives." Maya Rockeymoore Cummings just happens to have such a foundation (the Center for Global Policy Solutions).

She can pay herself a salary from the foundation and use foundation money to pay her expenses.
