Environmental groups concerned about I-94 project through north Minneapolis

State transportation officials want to do something about traffic and safety on Interstate 94 between downtown Minneapolis and Interstate 694, as well as state Highway 252 between I-694 and Highway 610.

Minnesota Department of Transportation is considering converting a stretch of highway into a freeway and putting MnPASS lanes on I-94 and 252.

But some are raising concerns about what the proposed changes might mean for residents of north Minneapolis who live along the I-94 corridor.

Alex Burns is chair of the Sierra Club North Star Chapter's land use and transportation team. He said that more traffic on I-94 will mean more pollution for north side residents.

"When we're talking about turning 252 into a freeway, bringing more traffic down the 94 corridor, that's going to lead to more congestion on 94 and that pollution spills over to north side residents,” said Burns. “MnDOT has talked a lot about decarbonizing transportation and incorporating equity into its lens on projects. But we're concerned that that's not really being looked at seriously here."

“””””When we’re talking about turning 252 into a freeway, bringing more traffic down the 94 corridor, that’s going to lead to more congestion on 94 and that pollution spills over to north side residents,”””””””””””

NEWSFLASH!!! 252 is already heavily congested. There are few traffic lights along the way to stop traffic which adds to the pollution.

And there is no way to pollute north Minneapolistan worse than it already is. Actually, you want to get through there as fast as possible to avoid being shot.

Well, it's only a problem for a few months of the year when Minnesota isn't covered in snow.

Not to mention, today’s cars pollute about 1/100th in comparison to grampa’s ‘64 Delta 88. More cars does not equate to worse pollution, than what they had 10 years ago.

Not according to the Greenies. They've added CO2 to the list of 'pollutants'. CO2 emissions are directly related to fuel consumption. Todays cars get about twice the fuel economy of the '88 cars so they produce half the 'pollution' of them.

How about nuking it from space? Then no more traffic problems, no more pollution issues, no more crime. Remember it is Minneapolis, Jihad central for the Mid-North U.S., as well as Marxism Central for a lot of that region.
