But you have to admit that arguing for some sort of quality standard in news is highly questionable when the direction of your preference seems to be away from alternative sources and by default in favor of mainstream sources.

It seems like well sourced analysis and commentary.
Who’s pretending? The author provides a series of citations to interesting material from places like Senator Grassley’s office, the New York Times, and the Washington Post. Typical fake news sites, but news sites by any measure.
