An investigator is on the scene of an explosion in Kyle Wednesday morning and working to determine the cause. The Hays County Sheriffs Office tells KXANs Tahera Rahman that a man at a residence there was smoking a turkey when things got out of control and a barn caught on fire.
Lieutenant Dennis Gutierrez of the Hays County Sheriffs Office explained that there was a vehicle fire in a barn with a possible propane tank that exploded.
Crews respond to the scene of an explosion in Kyle. (KXAN Photo/ Tahera Rahman). Hays County ESD said they discovered gun powder and ammunition were involved and that a propane tank might have also gone off. They say multiple explosions happened and that an investigator is on scene to find the cause.
One chicken died in the explosion, first responders say.
Be careful out there.
Man was smoking a turkey before explosion...
That’s awfully big to get into your mouth and which side do you light up?
"Do we use stuffing? No No No No.............."
The head goes in the mouth. But there can be an explosion if you haven’t degassed the turkey. This is apparently what happened. 8>)
Oh, that poor chicken.
He lit the BUTT of the cigarette :)
Well no, the butt of the turkey. 8>)
“The head goes in the mouth.”
If the head goes in the mouth, then we know where the smoke comes out....

Egg production is going down..
Pretty funny...when you load the turkey on the end of a 10 ft. pole you know things could go badly...
In Fish Boil country, this is known as a boil-off, but it comes at the end of the cooking not at the beginning.
ALWAYS remove the giblets, people....
Most guys just smoke cigars or cigarettes, but a Turkey?!
For decades, I just do the old oven-roast at 350 degrees with onions, garlic, lemons, sage and rosemary stuffed in the cavity. Melted butter and spices rubbed on the outside. Cook thigh meat to 160 degrees, pull it out and rest for 45 minutes before slicing. Perfect every time. No fires. No explosions.
Thats why you only smoke Camels.
“Don’t try this at home unless you are me.”
