The moderators do not give information, nor do they keep logs.

There is a concept called scrutiny.

The moderators on free Republic, and that very concept are and have always been vicerally at war.

fellow FReeper at least you’re given a response with a reason. Many of us others have their threads (and posts) pulled often without ANY explanation.

The current group of Free Republic Moderators don’t seem interested in attracting any newer, younger supporters of this website, instead appear more interested in keeping FR more of a “closed shop”. It wouldn’t have been thought of as possible 15 years ago that many of us would abandon Drudge, and even Fox News, and yet that’s what’s happening. I hope that doesn’t happen here.

This is a vanity.

It’s like a blog only with more drama and suspense

And with Darren’s help, we’ll get that chicken!

Darren is going away for a long, long time.

Yahoo pimped her repeatedly. I mean, once or twice was enough.

But they always had her on the sidebar shaking her.........body.

Yeah, it got old real fast.

If something is posted by a volunteer poster (who may be from one of many age and skill groups) in ‘news,’ and somebody thinks it should be in ‘front page news’ or ‘chat’ or ‘philosophy’ or ‘silly cat pictures’, then that somebody should just move it.

Easy Peasy. No longtimer feelings hurt. No confusion. No ‘why me’ posts.

And no volunteer posters interpreting it as permission to keep their $100 donations in their pockets for a quarter or two, or waste their volunteer time looking up articles to post to fill dead space in a volunteer forum, them being a volunteer and all. It’s all about perspective. Just sayin’

For me search never has worked.

I’ve had to use *gag* Google to search FR more than a few times.

This is important too. There is a line you don’t want to cross and start stepping on your own feet. When you start leaning towards a “private club for only those I like” mentality pretty soon you only have about 7 members left. And this won’t pay the electric bill or help the cause the site is intended to help. I have seen about ten really good websites die because of overzealous moderation micromanagement. But I have in turn also seen some idiots posting stuff that could get a site sued out of existence, even here. Folks really need to use some common sense and keep the host in mind when they post stuff that could cause the site owner some extreme problems.

But you make a very important point, If you never find out why something was pulled then how would you know what line you crossed so that you can try not to do it again in the future? Seems to me that to explain why would save a lot of similar future posts from the same user in the long run. Without an explanation it will just keep being repeated. And unless someone “likes” to remove posts it seems this is just creating more unnecessary work for no real reason.

Because FReepers are too stupid and lazy to use a drop-down?
They would be the morons you meant to take a swat at.

It is because you claim to be Unique but you are not Unique. See my screen name. That is being Unique. </humble brag >

I posted the initial Eric Ciaramella twitter speculation as it was happening and it was NOT pulled.

Simple rules I follow for posting to the news forum: Does this have anything to do with furthering conservatism or does it impact the political environment conservatives have to deal with. Is the source reliable (If not very clearly identify it is unreliable until confirmation)

Some guy or gal miss-using floor cleaner does not exactly scream out conservative issue. Had the floor cleaner been opened with an AR-15 and the local media was screaming gun control, sure. Somebody mixing bleach and vinegar and almost winning a Darwin Award? Not so much a newsworthy constructive contribution.

Don’t worry about the arbitrary rules that are unreasonably forced at times. However, they still have their hand out for donations so make sure you max out the credit card because they need to pay their personal rent.

It is what the moderator at that time says it is, Mr. Unique. Nothing more. Nothing less.

Like the new language they are coming out with. it means what the speaker wants it to mean at that particular point in time. Tomorrow or with another speaker, the definitation can change.

Stories about government abuses are routinely moved to chat.

Depends on source and context. It takes a while to learn the peccadilloes of the mods. Committing all rules to paper is less than ideal because it allows weasels to look for loopholes. The only fault I have with the mods is I can tell when one of them is having a bad day and that is not ideal for a moderator. Other than that small issue it is pretty much conservative common sense.
