BBC’s Dracula reboot will be bisexual; Van Helsing gets gender-swapped

The man who ruined Doctor Who, Steven Moffat, and one-half of the duo behind the Sherlock Holmes reboot, Mark Gatiss, have teamed up together for a reboot of another classic story, Dracula. The new show will debut on BBC in 2020. Oh, and Dracula has been made bisexual while Van Helsing has been turned into a woman.

The USA Today Post is reporting that the BBC is proud and out about making Dracula a connoisseur of the alphabet soup, with Mark Gatiss telling press…

"He’s got broad tastes has this Dracula. It’s not just a collection of Sixties women with push-up bras this time. Dracula has never discriminated, in so far as he can tell the difference between the sexes. He goes for his food but also people who interest him.

“This goes right the way back. There’s a moment at the end of a Hammer film with Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing when he goes to bite him and it’s very, very homoerotic for its time.”

According to the The Sun, the brand ruination doesn’t end there.

They note that Van Helsing, famous vampire hunter, will be portrayed by a woman. They slipped in the news about Van Helsing’s gender-swap at the very end of the article, writing…

"A woman will also replace vampire-hunter Professor Van Helsing in the adaptation, due to air next year.”

So they are admitting that perverts are evil?

As long as Kate Beckinsale is still a vampire wrapped in skin tight leather outfits, I will watch it once when it finally gets to Basic Cable.

The British television show Strictly Come Dancing had 2 guys dancing together on their results show last night, at least the second time they've done that. Their format is copied around the world (the American version is called Dancing With The Stars) so they act as a test market for conditioning audiences to accept same sex dancing. So far they have resisted calls for a same sex celebrity/pro hookup for the competition but I wouldn't be surprised to see it happen soon.

My favorite has always been the PBS production, starring the charmingly sinister Louis Jourdan.

Full movie there.

I stopped after John Pertwee.

His son Sean was the primary reason I watched Gotham.

I used to think I was weird for thinking “that old man Alfred” was hot.

Then I found out he’s 3 years younger than I am.

Dammit.

That left a mark.

Good comments about Sean! I was a friend of Jon’s for 14 years until he left us. When I first met Sean, he was a teenager with no ambition to be an actor. One day Jon happily told me that Sean was joining the family business at last!

I’m always impressed to see how well Sean has done, though I haven’t seen Gotham or his other work. Jon would be so proud.

It's from the BBC. The Beeb doesn't have to make money. It's government funded.

It’s a scandal that the BBC can still tax anyone who owns a TV

Brits need to have themselves a bloody T(V) party...

Stupid. By definition vampires are not human and thus asexual.

Wtf is wrong with people trying to put their human possessed naval centered selves into every topic.

There was a cheesy 70s show called Cliffhangers and I think it’s vampire idea was better.

This looks pretty stupid; however, I always thought it odd that there seemed to be some sexual confusion in the old Dracula movies: Dracula's attacks on the women had definite sexual/seduction overtones, and when he went after the men something didn't quite work.

Hollywood's "improvements" on classics never work.

This was rampant back in the 1930s and '40s, when there was no attempt at any kind of authenticity, and Hollywood cranked out butcher-jobs, like that Greer Garson shouldabeen-aborted Pride and Prejudice, where arch-meanie Lady Catherine de Bourgh was just a sweet old lady who wanted to make sure her nephew was happy.

Hollywood's recent hack-up of The Scarlet Letter was in the same vacuous tradition.

Transgendering Van Helsing into a woman appears to be following suit.

I understand. I like Capaldi as an actor a lot especially since he was a Doctor Who fan who made good, however the scripts and the way the show went during that time ruined his era for me.

Germans could bomb Pearl Harbor!

You mean they didn't????

I was ready to get up and rally behind John Belushi but I remembered it was only a movie. With a history lesson.

Kid in Journey to the Center of the Earth.

In remake in 2008 there was a 13 year old.
I am glad you overlooked that remake which along with
the Time Machine remake tried to ruin two of my favorite childhood memory favorite movies.

Sorry I wasn’t specific and you are right I shouldn’t criticize adaptations as I did.

The casting of Pat Boone (like Frankie Avalon in Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea) was to appeal to teenage fans. Does that make us feel old? Yes.
