'Trump betrayed us': Fleeing Kurds condemn U.S. decision to leave Syria (Maoist propaganda)

As U.S. troops follow President Trump's orders and pull out of northeast Syria, they leave behind men they fought side by side with against the Islamic State group. Amid fears of ethnic cleansing by Turkey, the Kurds have agreed to withdraw from a border area where fighting is underway, and now terrified civilians are also fleeing. Special correspondent Jane Ferguson reports.

Yeah, sure...yes we did.

My God, Trump has uncovered and laid bare the supreme nonsense of our foreign policies.

China, Japan, Germany etc etc etc, even Russia have avoided going to war, while we...spend trillions of dollars, FOR NOTHING.

And so now we’re supposed to support the Kurds.

Why not Congress, debate and vote about going into war.

Why do they think we owe them one drop of American blood?

I don’t recall liberals being all that upset when we actually abandoned the South Vietnamese. This PBS hit piece is just another bit of propaganda against Trump - anything to make him look bad...

What is the name of that place they are fleeing from? Ah, I think it is called Syria. It is not Kurdastan or the Kurd republic or anything of the like. If they choose to leave, that is their problem. I wonder how the press would report if illegals living in New Mexico decided to run a war against the rest of US. Scratch that, if Trump were president, they would support it I guess..

More fighting, less condemning, and maybe you’ll prevail.

It’s your desert, fight for it if you want it.

Try to untangle this Mideast quagmire. Turkey views the Kurds and their demands for a homeland as a threat. The Turks supported ISIS who were battling the Kurds ( mostly were in that sector were mostly Marxists) for control of Northeast Syria. Americans abhorred by ISIS atrocities supported the Kurds in their fight but the Americans were careful not to get into an open conflict with “NATO ally” Turkey. ISIS lost and Turkey could not let the Marxist Kurds consolidate power in Northeast Syria which would be a prelude to an independent state that would always covet Turkish territory. The Russians and Syrians didn’t mind that the Turkish supported and Saudi financed ISIS was defeated but are unwilling to concede Northeast Syria to either the Kurds or the Turks.

Now someone explain how the sacrifice of more American blood and treasure will make the United States and its people more secure. Time to leave and wish them all well. Remember whoever controls the oil has to sell it to buyers with hard currency or they starve.

Yes, they are in Syria and moving to another part in Syria. If they don’t like that the their quarrel is with Assad. Maybe if you didn’t try to forcibly overthrow him you could have had some influence on him. You’re Syrian, embrace that and if you want to have autononmy then try and negotiate that with Assad. Don’t try to get another country to overthrown your government

I think that almost all FReepers support Trump’s actions to disengage from foreign entanglements and avoid future ones. I sincerely hope that most FReepers who support this disengagement (as I do) don’t feel compelled to demonize the Kurds. From the experience of some in my family, the Kurds are some of the most decent people in that part of the world.

Can’t say I care. If it takes 50 marines to keep you safe after 10 years, then you’re a waste of time!
