This morning I was awakened by the Civil Defense sirens and my phone going off with alerts. Tornado Warning for Memphis. I immediately jumped into action and did the usual thing - I went outside to see how bad it was. I was caught up by the wind and carried to the top of an ancient Hickory tree in the yard. Its at least 80 ft tall. I was surprised to find that my cell phone service and the view were both amazing.

My girlfriend came to the rescue. She was yelling "Jump, I'll catch you". (never should have made her beneficiary on that life insurance) That's when all my years of training kicked in. I did a mighty Tarzan yell, then swung from tree to tree on the vines and landed safely back on the ground. I suffered a hangnail while digging my toenails into the tree to hang on, but I just bit that right off. Most importantly, MY JEEP COMANCHE IS OK!

In all seriousness, other areas of Memphis did sustain broken windows, wind damage, and power outages. My thoughts and prayers go out to those affected, and I hope this starts someones week with a smile.

Your girlfriend didn’t get pictures? She should have told you to hang on while she got her phone...It would be worth a picture if you’re not pulling our leg...legs...

you are so right. I’ve spent as much restoring that beast as I paid for it new. I just bought a new battery for it, installed a new front bumper and grille, and realized that the alternator isn’t charging and the blinkers don’t work. If I didn’t love that old truck, I would have set it on fire and pushed it into the lake long ago.

"never should have made her beneficiary on that life insurance"

Maybe next time a house will fall on her.
Remember, it's never a good idea to be worth more dead than alive. Glad you kids are okay.

Reminds me of the time I was sawing the end off a long limb while standing on a slightly too-short ladder. As the branch unloaded, I watched in silent horror as it lifted enough to clear the top of the ladder.

As I was plummeting to a certain death upon impact with the ground, I clearly recall calling out to my certainly soon-to-be widow, “I’m okay! I’m okay!” Thankfully, I was.

Yes, that was the least believable part of the story. A Jeep being out of the shop.

I drove a Jeep Cherokee years ago. It threw a rod at 60K miles. Trashed the engine. I parted it out and got rid of it.

I learned later that it was made at some factory in Tennessee or Kentucky that was having labor problems and the workers were sabotaging the vehicles before they got off the assembly line.

Lucky me.

That's the way I am with my '87 Wrangler YJ. In the process of rebuilding an engine for it.

I ran 179,000 miles on the original 4.0L engine and 120,000 more on a used one. Both blew oil out of the ccv like crazy. Had the last one rebuilt with the redesigned valve cover, and it’s leak free. If yours has the 4.0L in it by chance, be sure to put the redesigned valve cover on it.

Funny, I have inlaws who worked for Chrysler and one of them bought a new wagon stopped to fill it up for a vaction with his family and as he tried to get back in the handle came off so he went to the passenger side and that handle came off to, long story short all 4 handles came off. To say he was upset would be an understatement but his daughter and the family dog was inside and he had to I’m sure get back to the dealer, but I was ROFL and never did hear how it turned out. You think he should have known not to buy that vehicle as they were about to go on strike.
