And here’s something to add that provides valuable insight to this clique of neocons.
Judicial Watch (JW) filed a FOIA lawsuit in May 2017 against the US State Dept. and “US AID” that is just now bearing fruit (takes a long, long time in DC to get at real info because of deep state blocks) in terms of Anti-Trump actions. And it’s related to McMaster and Fiona Hill but that’s another thread in itself.
The JW info reveals “US AID” to be yet another one of those DC sounding virtue driven non-profits like ‘Society against Human Trafficking of Children’ blah blah blah which are in reality money laundering groups.
As an aside, to get a flavor (I have experience) of how it is that so many dirty actors are found on the international stage, it stems from areas where there are cheap internet communications like Skype and international business centers like London, Dubai (especially), Hong Kong (tangentially), and lots of migration in, out, around, and connected to those centers from New Delhi, South Africa, to Nigeria. Lots of shady characters, lots of BS ‘nephews and nieces of Putin’, etc. and they are all trying to put a deal together with known ‘mandates’ meaning people that are ‘next to’ an oligarch or chief banker, etc. The lies and corruption are so thick that it makes one’s head spin. You can’t believe a word any of them have to say. And they will produce contracts and cite terms but ask them for a passport copy and they disappear.
US AID gets US funding but it’s nothing more than a slush fund like the Clinton Foundation except that it comes from US taxpayers, most of these funds go to people on the take, people with a slot in a pay-for-play scheme, and people who have goons they can pay to overthrow governments (like a Clinton operative dialing up MS-13 to put out a hit), all under the aegis of a virtue sounding name like “US AID”. And there are dozens and dozens of these slush funds, slush funds everywhere.
Backing the Kurds was set up by Obama with a $500 million slush fund that factions of Kurds saw very little of. The Secret Iran Nuclear Deal was a massive slush fund and was connected to some Kurds in Syria. McCain knew about this. The funds were all arranged in large tranches of cash in different currencies, flown into different airports (most not in Iran). And the deal had connections with Uranium One that when revealed will blow the minds of Americans and set them on fire against Democrats and DC establishment groupies.
The above is a short caricature of how the international stage played until Trump happened.

In 2010 Al Qaeda in Iraq (AIQ), was established by Iraqi-born Ibrahim Awad Ibrahim al-Badry, who goes by the nom de guerre Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, who self-proclaimed himself to be the caliph of the Islamic world. He renamed AIQ renamed it to ISIS in 2013. Obama referred to ISIS as the JV team and basically ignored them. He did not defeat them, otherwise, if he had there would have been no need for the U.S. to engage with Russia & Syria to eliminate them and take back swaths of territory they had captured and occupied.
Turkey has a sordid history of targeting ethnic and religious minorities.
As bad, or worse, than any country over in that area.
