East Texas man robs bank day before wedding to pay for ring and venue

A Crockett man was taken into custody Friday night after he confessed to robbing a bank the day before his wedding so he could pay for the ring and the venue, according to Trinity County Sheriff Woody Wallace.

Heath Bumpous, 36, robbed the Citizens State Bank in Groveton, implied that he had a weapon, and demanded money. He then fled with the cash and drove down back roads.

Bumpous’ fiancee called him and convinced him to turn himself in to police after she saw still images of security footage on Facebook. Bumpous told authorities in Houston that they were supposed to get married on Saturday and he still needed money for the ring.

Wallace said that most of the stolen money was recovered and thanked Bumpous’ family for all their help...

Wallace said that the wedding did not happen on Saturday as scheduled.

“No wedding took place that I know of,” he said, “It didn’t happen in my jail.”

Isn’t that similar to stealing a loaf of bread to feed your family??

Aren’t the Bumpus hounds responsible for stealing the Christmas turkey from Ralphie’s dad? It must run in the family.

She says, “One thing’s for certain,
I don’t love you any more.”
And throws down the ring
As she walks out the door

Creative financing!

Meanwhile, the bride to be needs to run....not walk....away from this dude. No prison wedding, no nothing. Time for her to find another guy.

Back when my ancestors were crossing the plains, there is a story of a "prairie diamond"-- horseshoe nails heated and bent around a blacksmith anvil in just the right ring sizes. My thrice great grandfather paid the blacksmith with cut firewood for the pair.

He bought them proper rings some years later for a wedding anniversary when they could afford it. This was sometime between the 7th and 8th kid he fathered. In total, they raised 14 children to adulthood and not one became a bed-wetting liberal.

How romantic would that be, to get married in the prison chapel.

Down the road, she may be happy she dodged a bullet with this guy. If he robs banks, who knows what other reprehensible things he might do?
