AUSTIN, Texas — It could cost nearly $1 million to install 10 new drinking fountains throughout Downtown Austin as part of an effort by some council members to make free drinking water more accessible for everyone.

In a city memo released on Thursday, Austin Water identified 10 proposed locations for these fountains. At least two of them would be in the vicinity of the ARCH shelter on Seventh Street.

The ADA-compliant fountains would be free to use 24/7 and would be located in well-lit areas, according to the City. Each fountain would contain three components: a drinking fountain, a bottle-filling station and a pet fountain.

What a waste of tax dollars. Eww, I wouldn't let my dog drink from the pet fountain. It'll be turned into a urinal.

Karl Marx is kicking himself for not thinking up the ADA.

It is hard to believe that price tag.

I was in the public library, when I was young. This native male drank from the public. He put his lips smack on the fountain itself and he made sure that he slobbered his spit all over every inch of the tap.

Got to have clean clean water for the junkies to use in their spoons when they cook their smack. Triple-filtered, reverse osmosis, purified and enhanced with minerals.

"It is hard to believe that price tag."

Incredibly hard. Approaching impossible. $100K for a water fountain?

So it costs $100,000 each to run some water pipes to a drinking fountain?
No it doesn’t— most of that money would be siphoned off by the corrupt elites.

The other biggie is installing Portland Loos. That were designed to keep the homeless bums from camping in them as well as destroying them.

They are $100,000 each and then another $100,000 to install them.

My city just installed 4 with 2 more going in later this year.

“make free drinking water more accessible for everyone.”

Or is it to provide drinking water to the homeless tent people they are now allowing in Austin?

Will blacks and Whites have separate drinking fountains?

On a visit to Texas in the early 1950's, a friend of mine saw two drinking fountains labeled "white" and "colored." He was white, but being a Californian and unfamiliar with Jim Crow, he drank out of the "colored" fountain thinking he would get Coca Cola or something like that and was disappointed to find that it was plain old water.

My grandfather was superintendent of the Austin Water Department, Laos most of the existing pipes. He’d be laughing his ass off at $1M for 10 fountains. While crying over his beloved Austin.

$100,000 for each water fountain? Good gawd, what are they made of, gold?

Austin sounds like the Pentagon and their $50,000 hammers.

For some reason, this will not turn out as expected.

Their $1 million investment will be destroyed or ruined within a short while and these democRATS will have bupkis for their money.

The mayor has made the entire city free to tents. There is no designated tent city anymore. They can camp out on anyone’s door step. Well, except for west UT campus. Funny that. Austin is super liberal but UT is super duper liberal and they didn’t want the homeless camping out on their western side where the rich kid apartments are. It’s still ok for the homeless to camp on the not so wealthy kids’ door stoops.
