Deputies use Taser to rescue moose from hammock

Sept. 12 (UPI) -- Authorities in Wyoming said they had to use a Taser to subdue a moose so they could disentangle its antlers from a resident's hammock.

The Sublette County Sheriff's Office said deputies and Wyoming Game and Fish personnel responded to a residence this week where a bull moose was reported to be caught in a hammock hanging from a tree.

"Due to the nature of the entangled animal and the proximity to hunting season, a tranquilizer would render the animal not harvestable and inedible," the sheriff's office said.

The deputies used a Taser to subdue the moose so its antlers could be disentangled from the hammock.

The sheriff's office said the moose was not injured and left the area on its own.

Tidbit Tuesday 9-10-19 Wildlife Safety:

SCSO and Wyoming Game and Fish urge citizens to be aware of hanging items in their yards which may cause injury to Wyoming’s wildlife:

On Sunday September 8th, 2019 at approximately 09:00am, Sublette County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to South Fremont Avenue for a report of a bull moose who appeared to have its antlers tangled in a hammock attached to a tree. Game and Fish also responded to the scene. Due to the nature of the entangled animal and the proximity to hunting season, a tranquilizer would render the animal not harvestable and inedible. A plan was devised to use Tasers from SCSO Deputies which has proven successful in other jurisdictions to incapacitate the animal long enough to remove the hammock but not harm the animal. The plan was successful here, as well, and the moose was freed from the tangled hammock without injury and safely left the area.

Game and Fish Warden Kraft spoke with citizens regarding items which many citizens are not aware can cause harm to these animals. This time of year, with the rut starting and animals rubbing velvet, we want to join the Game and Fish in asking citizens to remove hanging items, hammocks, bird feeders, or anything else moose, deer and other wildlife could get tangled in to avoid further occurrences.

I’ve got to slow down my reading. At first glance, I thought the article’s title was “Deputies use Taser to rescue monk from hammock”.

Come to think of it, that would be an interesting story too.

That’s great. And libs complain about the use of tasers? This moose wasn’t even committing a crime.

It pays to read the article before posting!
