Alabama 'disappointed' that it has to play another afternoon game at home

The SEC announced Monday that Alabama’s Sept. 21 home game against Southern Mississippi will kickoff at 11 a.m. local time. The school is not happy about it.

The school is so displeased with the news that president Stuart R. Bell and athletic director Greg Byrne released a statement to express the Tide’s position on the matter. “We are disappointed that our game against Southern Miss has been selected as a daytime kickoff at home,” the statement said. “We realize we’ve played more non-conference day games at home in September than any other SEC team since 2014. There have been a number of conversations with our conference office, and they also recognize the challenges these kick times present for our student-athletes and fans.”

Both Arrogance and Alabama start with the letter A. Mr. Byrne if you do not like early kickoffs then stop cashing those checks from CBS and Disney. Also, schedule non-conference games people outside the state of Alabama would actually be interested to watch instead of glorified scrimmages.

On a side note, Tennessee has fallen so much from the glory days their match up against Florida is also in the early time window. I remember when that game was prime time. My only question is that the game the worst announcer in college football, Beth Mowens, will call.

Because you play nothing but non-conference cupcakes at home in Sept since 2014. Nobody is interested in watching you play the likes of Kent State and Louisiana-[Insert Obscure Louisiana City].

One more reason not to watch the NFL. Talentless, football knowledge of zero, histrionic over reaction on every play and a voice that would send a train down a dirt road.

I agree with you about the arrogance and whiny attitude of the Tide. Ultimately TV controls kickoff times. Can you actually believe that they prefer to have a competitive game in prime time? /s Maybe Saban should schedule better teams in non-conference to get a prime time. I’ve seen many 11:00 am kickoffs between OU and Texas, some extremely hot, and some cold. Other than the hardship of the fans for both teams, the conditions are the same for all competitors. Suck it up, buttercup. Talk to your AD about the TV contract that the vaunted SEC signed giving TV the right to dictate kickoff times.

Enough said.

State just beat the Mustard Buzzards 35-10. It could have been 60 plus if Tommy Stevens had stayed in. Alabama will put close to 70 on them and ESPN doesn’t want to waste prime time on that

This is the problem with recruitment and category 5-star players that Alabama is picking up each year. None of the top level teams want to play them, and with this b-list of teams that will accept the chance....comes lesser TV appearances and less revenue. If I were the Alabama coach...I’d make an announcement that we’d play an entire game next week with the 2nd string. They would still probably win by 20 points.

They can’t even get northern teams on the schedule now. Someone was suggesting that Harvard or Princeton ought to get on the schedule, but that will never happen. Maybe they ought to offer a million-dollar fee to Maryland or Ohio State and a bonus of two-million if they beat Alabama.

Disagree with everything you said about ‘Bama (Roll Tide), but you are spot on with the Vols and Miss Beth. I think if she stopped TRYING to sound like a dude she might not be half-bad, but as it is, she sounds like a 15 year old boy.

Georgia - Arkansas State is also an 11:00 kickoff on ESPN2. I doubt their non-conference game with Notre Dame will be, however.

Yep, you’re right.. they never played Clemson, usc, Georgia last year... we all know there is no advantage to the home teams either. gosh I cannot remember a time last year when they played any ranked team. Playing the tougher games away from home is so cupcake. #RollTide

Bama should just bite the bullet and switch to the NFL.

Given that Brett Favre is not playing for So. Miss. anymore, I don’t think there’s millions of Americans clamoring to see this game. You want prime-time coverage, play prime-time opposition.

You understand Alabama can’t force other teams to play them? Alabama has a tough time finding quality non-conference opponents willing to play them. At least Wisconsin and Notre Dame have the guts to schedule games with Alabama in the next few years.
