We recently visited Boston. They have a very together trail map that marks routes green (no cars, may cross streets), yellow (designated bike lanes on roads), or red (busy roads, may or may not have bike lanes). We got a 24-hour Blue Bike service and rode 34 miles, almost all on the green trails. VERY enjoyable, other than high-speed cyclists.

Agree, but it sometimes depends on pedestrian traffic.

For example a bridge could have the same divisions, but if there is an usual circumstance such as an evaluation that causes very heavy pedestrian traffic, then the bicyclists should just walk like everybody else.

And if for some reason very heavy pedestrian traffic is the norm, then perhaps the bike lane should not be there. But that is likely not the case in the example you cite, in which case, again, I agree.

Oh, and good for you re being a sidewalk pedestrian vigilante of sorts - I would do same. That’s not passive aggressive though - it’s boldly assertive.

Naturally, zig zagging is a no no in a shared use lane.

Hold the line, and you have the ROW. Want to move left or right, then check behind you, make sure it’s safe, then hold the new line and again you have ROW.

Whether you hear or acknowledge a bell or an “on your left” or “on your right” won’t matter as long as you do that.
