The death penalty was commonly carried out in back in the 1960s. I think what spared Sirhans life was that this all happened in California.
If you weren’t around at the time, RFK was seen by many as a savior of the Dem party. He jumped into the race late after Eugene McCarthy was winning primaries because the VN war was dragging the dems down. That, and of course, he was the brother of the sainted JFK.
Oh, he shot him, from the front. The shot that killed Kennedy came from just behind the right rear. The media has not told all that actually transpired that day with the introduction of other evidence.
Sirhan fired the maximum in the pistol as eight shots. This was proven as Sirhan wrestled free and grabbed the revolver again, but he had already fired all the bullets and was subdued.
The location of Kennedy’s wounds suggested that his assailant had stood behind him, because some witnesses assert that Sirhan faced west as Kennedy moved through the pantry facing east.
This has led to the suggestion that a second gunman actually fired the fatal shot, a possibility supported by Chief Medical Examiner and Coroner for the County of Los Angeles Thomas Noguchi who stated that the fatal shot was behind Kennedy’s right ear and had been fired at a distance of approximately one inch (Sirhan never got that close nor from that direction)
In 2007, it was revealed that forensic expert Philip Van Praag had analyzed an audiotape of the shooting known as the Pruszynski recording in which Van Praag had discovered acoustic evidence that a second gun had been involved in the assassination. Van Praag found that 13 shots were fired even though Sirhan’s gun held only eight rounds, its maximum bullet capacity, and Sirhan had no opportunity to reload it.
Van Praag states the recording also reveals at least two cases where the timing between shots was shorter than physically possible from Sirhan’s gun alone. Forensic audio specialists Wes Dooley and Paul Pegas of Audio Engineering Associates in Pasadena examined Van Praag’s findings and corroborated the presence of more than eight gunshots on the tape along with over-lapping shots, all of this indicating the presence of a second shooter, the one that was able to get close to Kennedy, one inch, and shoot him behind the right ear that Sirhad could not have done.
I was watching that night, personally, and to this day, I know there were TV cameras following him. Where’d the film go for that?
Sirhan probably shot him at least once from the front, along with a number of other people. But according to the coroner inquest, and the position of the gun and location, it couldn’t have been him that fired the brain shot. Wrong angle, location, and ability while being subdued by George Plimpton and Roosevelt Greer in the front of Kennedy. Don’t be fooled by the media that easy. Always question their stance.

I was also watching when it happened.
The Bushes are all corrupt.
Good point.
What does Sirhan know about the Clintons?
Thane Eugene Cesar, Kennedy’s body guard for the night, is the one who actually fired the fatal shots at point blank range into Robert Kennedy. Sirhan was NEVER in a position to be responsible for the fatal bullet wounds. The destruction of evidence in this case is more evidence of your corrupt government at work. The folks who took over this nation on November 22, 1963 have committed countless crimes and murders to cover their little secret but little by little it is all unraveling as modern technology exposes one mistake after another.
A bit surprised by the number of left wing Kennedyites showing up on this thread.
Like a moth to the flame.
It is their destiny.
1968 was a big year for me:
Married, birth of daughter, death of Robt.Kennedy, death of MLK, riots at dem convention Chicago, election of Nixon,
Got draft notice from LBJ.
Yes, though Poppy obviously especially close to this one.
“The Bushes are all corrupt.”
I don’t understandf how you got the Bushes into this, but if you do a little research you’ll know who wanted him and John dead and why.

“Was there a woman in a polka dot dress anywhere near by?”
You read about that, huh? Even so, if she was involved with oit, and there were two of them, there’s no connection other than doing it for someone else. And the someone ele is very obvious if you study history.

We’ve paid room and board for this murdering a$$hole for 50 years. Where’s the justice in that?
Christians were prominent among the founders and early leaders of the PLO. Not many left now.
I wouldn’t bet on that happening, too many unknown variables. Any guesses on who his VP pick might have been?
” I’m leavin’ on a jet plane
Don’t know when I’ll be back again...”
Off on a McNamara scholarship...
Just in time for Tet of ‘68.
Please Mister Nixon, drop that bomb, cause I want home from VietNam...
I don’t think the murder and trial in California
was the only thing that prevented a death penalty ruling.
I believe it would have been hard for any Kennedy to ever
argue against the death penalty had it been the ruling.
“Sirhan fired blanks.”
We know from diffeent sources that some of the bullets that were fired from his eight, did hit others in the crowd who witnessed the shooting. Those were Paul Schrade, an official with the United Automobile Workers union; William Weisel, an ABC TV unit manager; Ira Goldstein, a reporter with the Continental News Service; Elizabeth Evans, a friend of Pierre Salinger, and one of Kennedy’s campaign aides; and Irwin Stroll, a teenage Kennedy volunteer.
Witnessing the shooting, and subduing Sirhan were authors George Plimpton, Jimmy Breslin and Pete Hamill, former professional football player Rosey Grier, and 1960 Olympic gold medalist Rafer Johnson.
Kennedy was shot twice in the back and once in the back of the head. There was, also, a shot that passed through his coat not drawing skin. All the shots that were contributory to the killing were from behind him and at point blank, less than two inches, a position Sirhan never had. The fourth bullet through the coat could have come from the front, but was never determined from which direction it came from because it didn’t have any value. And the other five shots that couldn’t have been explained and the holes were photographed by the FBI were never explained.
