And for those Italians like myself who put the Godfather book only second to The Bible (a very distant second) this idea of “fredo” being an ethnic slur is absurd.
I have NEVER once heard it used like that.
ANYONE, black, white or yellow, Irish or Polish or Chinese, can be called a “fredo”.
Beto is a “fredo”. As are many others in the dem primary race.
Since I never saw the movie, I had never heard the term till today. Screw that rat 🐀 bastard Cuomo.
As well as George Will, William Kristol, and Jonah Goldberg.
You're welcome.
ANYONE, black, white or yellow, Irish or Polish or Chinese, can be called a fredo.
We’ve been calling my middle brother Fredo for years—good guy, just not the brightest bulb. His little brother always got the respect!
“I am smart Mikey!. I’m your big brother”
Half Italian here. I agree that it’s not an ethnic slur. He’s just looking for any way to shut down a cutting insult, and accusations of racism are the left’s #1 go-to move. It is a very effective tactic if properly deployed, but this is insane. If anything, Fredo is the racist here for making a ludicrous comparison to the N-word.
3 words I knew for Italians
Not gonna use em
I have a friend almost like family there
Let me begin by saying, I am not a fan of Cuomo. Frankly, I hate his political positions, his attitude and his fake-news. However, my dislike of Cuomo does does not blind me to understanding his reaction to being called "Fredo".
It's understandable that people of Italian heritage would consider being called 'Fredo" an insult. Fredo was the weak amoral brother in the Godfather movie. Calling an Italian "Fredo" is similar to calling an African American an "Uncle Tom", i.e., these labels are considered an insult.
Did Cuomo overreact? Yes. Will Cuomo be sued for making bodily threats? Probably. Was Cuomo right in being angry and interpreting 'Fredo' as an insult. Yes, he was.
