Donald Trump's 2020 re-election campaign wasted no time capitalizing on a feud between the president and Chris Cuomo, introducing a t-shirt for sale on Tuesday that mocks the CNN anchor for a videotaped F-bomb rant that went viral online.
Cuomo confronted a man who called him 'Fredo' – insisting he thought that was the TV star's name. Cuomo took it as an anti-Italian insult and threatened to throw the man down a flight of stairs as he berated him in vulgar language while a clelphone camera captured the scene.
Fredo Corleone was the dimwitted and disloyal older brother of Michael, the central character in 'The Godfather.'
The Trump campaign's response is a t-shirt, available for $34.00, that carries the words 'FREDO UNHINGED' and still images from the video.
'CNN’s Chris Cuomo is Fredo!' the campaign website's product page reads.
'The truth hurts. He totally lost it. Help us annoy Chris Cuomo and buy your "Fredo Unhinged Tee" now!'
Campaign Manager Brad Parscale said in a tweet that only 'a limited supply' would be available. Less than 2-1/2 hours later he wrote that the shirts were '[s]elling faster than Fredo's meltdown! Thank you #FredoCuomo for filling up our coffers. You have now directly supported the POTUS!'
Communications Director Tim Murtaugh snarked on Twitter that the shirt 'should come with a trigger warning for @CNN anchors.'

And for those Italians like myself who put the Godfather book only second to The Bible (a very distant second) this idea of “fredo” being an ethnic slur is absurd.

Fredo could only be taken as a slur if you fancied yourself a goombah. Otherwise, it simply refers to a weak-minded familial disappointment.
