just ordered a note 10 + I have a year-and-a-half before retirement so I figured I’d get a new phone now.

I was speaking in general as consumers and not picking on any brand in particular. Whether it is Samsung, Tesla, Chrysler, GM, Apple, Microsoft, AT&T, Verizon, Comcast or any other brand who purposely implant proprietary time bombs to render their product useless if you don’t put up with the perpetual extortion business practices.

As long as we foolishly keep allowing them to do it and buy the products with herd mentality they will keep doing this crap. If you buy a product it should belong to you, control of that product should not perpetually belong to them even after the warranty is up and throughout the lifespan of the product.

For the last 35 years there has been a trend to engineer products that are purposely designed to break as soon as the warranty is up. Then you can’t take it to your own mechanic, you have to take it to the dealer. And like fools we just keep buying these with herd mentality. If we stop they will stop.

They still designed it so that a feature will stop working. It's not rocket science, a battery is a battery as long as it is the same specifications. Some may not last as long as others, but that decision should belong to the owner not the manufacturer and they should not disable features on YOUR phone you PAID FOR because of it. It's not like it is new technology, we have been making batteries for quite awhile now...

Ever wonder why we have a thousand different designs for wall warts? I can remember when Apple use different pins on their adb ports to keep you from using different modems and other items. Almost no parts are interchangeable on any automobile unless they are two products made by the same company and even then if the part is made for a premium model the parts may be the same but they will not sell for the same price.

When it comes to deliberately built in failure of high tech products I don't buy it because I have a couple 20 year old computers that still work and I bet you can find thousands of old Apple IIs still running. I do however know that new processor tech changes everything and it is painful to have to move to new equipment to run the latest and greatest. Most people don't need the latest and greatest the 10 year old stuff still works fine. 4K tvs are so cheap that big monitors are a given anymore. 40inch 4K can be had for a couple hundred bucks and I remember when I paid $400.00 for a 12 inch VGA.

You (nor anyone else) has listed “a feature will stop working” - WHAT feature? NO “features” of the devices stop working. Performance remains the same as new, and every function it was designed and shipped with still works.

AS to batteries being batteries - explain that to those who have had phones melt down/catch fire, or blow up... all because of crappy batteries.
