what kind of diesel gives you 48 mpg?

Mine's a BMW...but there are several out there today that will also do it. Chevy Cruze for one. And there were VWs that could as well.

“Ditto the Alfa-Romero Giulia Quadrifoglio which has a Ferrari steering system for same price as this Mustang.”

The Car and Driver boys tested the Alfa Romeo in their August issue. It’s an $80,000 disaster.

“Car and Driver? LOL!”

“In a car this prone to failures large and small shouldn’t the warning lights be brighter?”

“During its 14 months with us, the Giula spent 80 days out of commission”

LOL!

(And i’m no big Mustang fan)

It’s got more than a Ferrari steering system. It’s got the same engine as a Ferrari Daytona (minus two cylinders), but in a car that only costs around $80k. Plus, you get that legendary Alfa reliability and unique ergonomic design.

LOL I read somewhere that warning lights came on so frequently, because sometimes it was the warning light *itself* that was faulty! After a while, the testers started ignoring them and sometimes they turned off by themselves. Only to turn on again some time later. And then back off again.

A Ferrari Daytona had a V-12.

The Alfa has a V-6.

12-6=6 fewer cylinders.

“It’s got the same engine as a Ferrari Daytona (minus two cylinders),..”

It has a twin turbo engine with half the cylinders of a Ferrari Daytona. Now THAT was a bad ass car back in the day.

Man, these are the good old days. It seemed like the end of the world and cars would never be exciting again, back in the 1980s when RWD was on the ropes and all Cadillacs had FWD, the Mustang’s Probe replacement was FWD, and all engines were detuned to nothing and there was the Buick Grand National and nothing else fast on the road, it looked like it was all over, never to surface again.

Insurance costs and air pollution devices almost killed off everything worth driving.

Who could see this coming? I mean, 700 HP cars and the insurance costs aren’t outrageous on them.

These are the good old days, my friends. What an era. My 2016 Dodge Challenger SRT is about the best car I’ve ever owned. No, I’m sure it is the best car I’ve ever owned.

You are not the target market. You don’t need to be impressed. Only people who WANT a high horsepower rear wheel drive car are impressed. In fact, if all you love is trucks, you are not a car guy anyway so you’ll never understand the appeal. My brother would never drive anything but a truck, but even HE loves my Dodge Challenger and all the hot cars coming out. Wouldn’t own one, but he loves them.

Clearly meant to compete with the Dodge Hellcat horsepower. Price is similar so its just a matter of taste which style ponycar one likes. The Hellcat and wide body Hellcat and Demon have been out for a while now. There have been some Shelby 1000 or close to 1000 hp versions of the Mustang but maybe they weren’t street legal or something.

I understand that. But $74K is a lot of bread to spend on a Ford. A fair number of guys my age could afford it...but guys in their 30s/40? Seems to me that most guys (it ain't women who would be smitten by this beast) who can spend $74K are gonna want a Mercedes,a BMW or maybe a used Porsche.

Oh,wait....forgot drug dealers. They can afford it and might want it.

Just sayin'...

People don’t know how to drive them. They treat them like automatic transmissions. They’re not. They are manuals. So people get freaked out by the initial shudder. They do things like creep along at 2 mph like an automatic can do with its torque converter.

They do things like take their foot off the brake on an uphill incline like you can do with an auto while the torque converter keeps you from rolling backwards. The way people drive has a lot to do with the problems people have caused with dual-clutch cars. They are not as forgiving as an auto, just like conventional stick shift is not as forgiving.

I would kill to have a dual-clutch in my Challenger. I would love it.

At least Mustangs have independent rear drive today, so they handle better than ever. It is a good handling car.

I just noticed you said 48 MPG, so you probably have a TDI in a car. My bad. Still, if you are into MPG you are not into HP.
