Teens!

In Tulsa you have to wear a gun while watering your lawn.

And the homeowner who shot the running punk has been charged?

The governor of Oklahoma needs to declare martial law.

The worst race riot in U.S. history was in Tulsa.

States have slightly different use of deadly force laws.

Generally, you can use deadly force if you fear for your life of fear of great bodily harm for you or someone else. In some states not all you can also use deadly force to protect your home (although that may or may not include a yard, garage). Or sometimes you can use deadly force to stop of felony.

However, generally you can't use deadly force if there is not immediate and pressing threat to you. For example if a crook does something that scares you and they the crook runs away, you generally can't shoot them in the back or while they are putting distance between themself and you.

Also there is the concept of proportionate force. That is if someone throws a snowball at you, you shouldn't be able to shoot them with a firearm.

I can see why the guy was hauled down to the jail. Justice is not fair it is about technicalities and past legal cases. It has little to do with common sense or fairness.

The neighbor was in a tough spot but he did the right thing regarding a statement. He said the teen was running at him and then he refused to say anymore. He got arrested, but it was a smart decision.

In a sane world the neighbor would get a reward for his good deed.

In a sane world he would not have been arrested. The thugs were in the neighborhood robbing people. The neighbor was in his own yard and suddenly there is someone who was not supposed to be there, and in my opinion, the neighbor became alarmed. In a sane world the cops would put all this together and submit it to the DA instead of arresting him.

The police/prosecutor might drop the charge. Cook’s statement on what happened differs from the comment made by the Daily Mail. Cook might not be guilty. Readers should follow the link and read the article.

Cook’s statement and refusal to answer further questions (behind the link) indicates a possibility that he is insured. We’ll see.

Good for the homeowner.

What was he supposed to do against a gang of teens, let them beat him up, maybe even kill him?

Put me on the neighbor’s jury.

This should never go to trial. The neighbor was on his own property minding his own business when one of the thieves came running through - if he ran straight at the neighbor, it's self defense all the way.
