I saw Joplins psychedelic car at a porsche exhibit at North Carolina Museum of Art in Raleigh. Gorgeous!
You are so right. Whether you hate hippies, rain, mud, drugs, if you like classic rock, some of the greatest musicians played at Woodstock. Joplin, Who, Santana, Hendrix, Credence Clearwater etc. The music can never be recreated.
Jefferson Airplane, Joe Cocker, Crosby Stills. And yes Joan Baez was there.
Difficult if not impossible to recreate an original iconic event such as this. Kinda like Godfather 3.
My brother in law and his twin attended Woodstock at age 17. Always has us laughing when he describes they all left their cars on the road and walked and the mud, rain and the music. He is a Republican. Many of us start off as democrats then become Republican when we grow up.
Why on earth would ANY community want to live through that twice?
My mom used to make offhand remarks that she would have liked to attend Woodstock.
I’d give her a disbelieving stare and say “No, you wouldn’t!”
Apparently she had never seen the photos of people copulating in feces.
She probably meant for the MUSIC. You can probably watch the other in San Francisco.
I was State-side in San Diego in the summer of ‘69 and remember reading the eight or sixteenth page ad in the L.A. Free Press for the “Woodstock Arts & Music Festival” back in upstate New York. Later ads had most of the lineup and I was tempted for about 45 seconds to go AWOL and try to make it for the event. Real glad I didn’t do that now. I live about a half hour north of the Meriweather Post Pavilion and would no more think of trying to go to the event there than to drive my car into a bridge abutment at 100 mph.
[[The music can never be recreated.]]
Exactly- that era is done with sadly- some great great stuff came out of that era- - now all we have are political hacks pretending to be musicians- snowflakes- their music is really nothing but variations of the tunes and sounds of the Woodstock era- it had a unique feel- music today doesn’t for the most part in my opinion
They had lots of problems with rapes and other violent crimes at Woodstock 25 in 1994.
