According to a Police Department statement released on Saturday, a 17-year-old female "suspect" died in the hospital following a 7 p.m. shooting that involved a Fullerton police K-9 officer.

Initial reports indicated that a vehicle had crashed into a police K-9 vehicle, according to California Highway Patrol's log.

The Anaheim police news release said "an item appearing to be a handgun was recovered from the scene." "Determination needs to be made if it was real, functional, loaded, etc.,"

"The freeway was packed and all potential witnesses need to be interviewed first," police said in another tweet. "We cannot risk influencing someone's statement, by releasing details prematurely."

The agency has not yet indicated what crime the girl was suspected of.

Hard to tell if its horrible or not. There really isn’t much factual info in the article to indicate what happened.

I agree, and I’m not indicting the police. I just think that it’s tragic in general when a 17 year old loses their life. Unfortunately, it happens in inner cities all over the country very frequently.

"We ask for prayers from the community as we work with Rev. Al Sharpton, Rev. Jarrett Maupin, and the National Action Network to find answers to what appears to be another unjustified shooting of a young person of color,"

Why do they need answers since it's inordinately clear they've already declared this an, "Unjustified shooting".

I do not automatically think its tragic a 17 year old loses their life. For me I require context to make that determination. if they are a punk thug, for example, I think of it as a blessing for all of society.

Absolutely. Trayvon Martin was 17, and every bit of evidence revealed at George Zimmerman’s trial indicated that Zimmerman had every legal and ethical right to shoot him in self defense.

You are right about not too much factual info. I thought this was really the best part of the piece “Magda Rojas, a family friend, said she didn’t know how Hannah could possibly have had a gun.

“Maybe a Mickey Mouse gun or something, but not a real gun,” Rojas said. “We don’t have no clue. We don’t have real answers.”

And in the picture the girl looks like she’s about 15 and she looks pretty white to me. I suppose she is Hispanic?

Reserving judgment, until some real answers are provided.

“Officials recovered a “possible handgun” or “an item appearing to be a handgun” at the scene, according to an Anaheim police statement.

“It still needs to be forensically examined to determine if it was actually a handgun, if it was functional, if it was loaded,” Anaheim police Sgt. Daron Wyatt said.”

How much “forensic examining” do you need to do to know whether a gun is real or not?

She doesn’t look like a “person of color” to me, unless they’re finally calling white a color.

I will withhold judgment until more facts (autopsy/toxicology, psych report, physical evidence) come to light.

As far as I am concerned, you can forget about looking into this one. When I saw that Sharpton was involved, I lost interest. Nothing he is involved in turns out good.

What is known based on reports, she ran into a marked K9 police vehicle on the freeway. In addition, reports state the decedent had some type of gun, or what appeared to be a gun.

Speculating here...The witnesses will likely know if her vehicle appeared to intentionally run into the police vehicle. Furthermore, if this were just a simple collision which appeared to be unintentional, the cop in the K9 vehicle would likely have never known the decedent had a real gun or toy gun inside her vehicle. Unless that is, if the decedent displayed the gun before or after the collision.

"Determination needs to be made if it was real, functional, loaded, etc.,"

Or, if it was a "drop gun"......

If that were the case, it would be a good trick with a freeway full of witnesses who never saw what appeared to be gun in the decedents hand. Btw, that area of freeway is jammed with people, and after a collision, everyone would be going real slow and gawking at the parties involved.

In other words, if she exited her vehicle with nothing in her hand which resembled a gun, it would be awful hard to plant one after she was shot dead while alleging she pointing it the cop prior to her being shot. No bueno.

I would think that a 17-year-old having to lead such a life that led to her inevitable shooing by police was tragic enough.

Take the guns away from the majority of the police is how I’ve felt for a long time. If you’re a cop, ex-cop, brother or son of a cop father or spouse of a cop, I don’t care. You earn the respect you deserve. You just can’t pin respected on with a gun and a badge.
