U.S. Women’s National Team defender Ali Krieger strongly defended her teammate, Megan Rapinoe, Wednesday after President Donald Trump criticized Rapinoe on Twitter for saying that she would not go “to the f------ White House” if the United States won the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
Rapinoe’s comments, which were posted by Eight by Eight in a viral video released Tuesday, prompted Trump to criticize Rapinoe in a series of Tweets Wednesday.
He wrote in part: “Megan should WIN first before she TALKS! Finish the job! We haven’t yet........ invited Megan or the team, but I am now inviting the TEAM, win or lose. Megan should never disrespect our Country, the White House, or our Flag, especially since so much has been done for her & the team. Be proud of the Flag that you wear. The USA is doing GREAT!”
Krieger quickly came to the defense of her teammate.
“In regards to the “President’s” tweet today, I know women who you cannot control or grope anger you, but I stand by @mPinoe & will sit this one out as well,” Krieger wrote. “I don’t support this administration nor their fight against LGBTQ+ citizens, immigrants & our most vulnerable.”
Earlier in the week, Trump also criticized Rapinoe for the former University of Portland star’s protest during the national anthem.
In 2016, Rapinoe knelt during the national anthem in solidarity with former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick and to protest police brutality and other forms of discrimination. In response, the U.S. Soccer Federation introduced a rule requiring players to “stand respectfully” during the anthem. During the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup, Rapinoe has stood during the national anthem, but has abstained from singing or putting her hand over her heart during the ceremony.

On Thursday, Rapinoe stood by her decision not to visit the White House.
“I stand by the comments that I made about not wanting to go to the White House, with the exception of the expletive,” she said during a news conference ahead of Friday’s quarterfinal World Cup game between France and the United States. “My mom would be very upset about that.”

I miss the good old days when conservatives, moderates, and liberals put political differences aside and support the Team USA. Many years ago, I watched the gold medal game for men's basketball. The game was during Beijing Olympics...The game was between US and Spain. The game was broadcast live after midnight...I was happy that US beat Spain in that game...Yes, I was aware that US team was full of liberal Democrats.

Ms. Krieger could have expressed support for Ms. Rapinoe without accusing President of being a misogynist...But, she had to let the world know how much she hates President...
Contrast her response with how Dodgers Manager Dave Roberts responded after President criticized his decisions during Game 4 of the 2018 World Series:
“The president said that?” Roberts responded, per the Boston Herald’s Jason Mastrodonato. “I’m happy he was tuning in and watching the game. I don’t know how many Dodgers games he’s watched. I don’t think he was privy to the conversation. That’s one man’s opinion.”
I was not offended at all by how Roberts responded to President Trump...He did not accuse President of being a horrible person...
