I have a simple reply: “Dear esteemed members of Congress, should each of you who are so inclined to pursue the impeachment of President Trump do so, then I suggest you ne er return to the territory of your constituents, to preclude any American citizen’s quirky idea that it is time to replace you.

If they do that, then McConnell and the Senate should give the House three days the next week to present their case, with Trump getting three days for rebuttal. The Democrats have no case but will try to present the Mueller report and lawyer gabble about obstruction as their case. In any event, Trump’s three days of rebuttal should be dynamite, exposing both the illegal surveillance against him and his campaign and the dishonesty of Mueller’s effort.

“Perhaps the op means impeachment hearings, not impeachment.”

That’s probably the case, because at the end of the day, all the RATs are going to get is some time-wasting hearings on the matter. And I am fine with that. Next year their challengers in the election will have a field day asking them “just exactly what did you accomplish over the past two years?”

"Impeachment" is a political process, not a criminal process. "Impeachment" is not removal from office e.g., Bill Clinton.

Congress has the authority to impeach but then only the Senate can remove from office following a Senate trial. The Senate would need to prove the President is guilty of Treason, Bribery, or other high Crimes and Misdemeanors - as specified in Article II, Section 4 of the Constitution.

I don't see our President being removed from office by any sane politician. Democrats & republicans understand that Congress' attempt to remove an innocent sitting President would have grave repercussions.

========

Here's the text of the comment:

***** Part 1:
I have a degree in Political Science, and I am a card-carrying Libertarian. I’ve been studying politics and political history for the past 30 years. My specialty is U.S. Presidents. That said, I hope that the House of Representatives impeaches Trump. Let me tell you what will happen next.

1. The House can pass articles of impeachment over the objections of the Republicans, and refer to the Senate for trial.

2. The Senate will conduct a trial. There will be a vote, and the Republicans will vote unanimously, along with a small number of Democrats, to not convict the President. Legally, it will all be over at that point.

3. However, during the trial, and this is what no one is thinking about right now, the President’s attorneys will have the right to subpoena and question ANYONE THAT THEY WANT. That is different that the special counsel investigation, which was very one-sided. So, during the impeachment trial, we will be hearing testimony from James Comey, Peter Strzok, Lisa Page, Bruce Ohr, Glenn Simpson, Donna Brazille, Eric Holder, Loretta Lynch, Christopher Steele, Hillary Clinton, John Brennan, James Clapper, and a whole host of other participants in this whole sordid affair and the ensuing coverup activities. A lot of dirt will be dug up; a lot of truth will be unveiled. Finger pointing will occur. Deals will start being made, and suddenly, a lot of democrats will start being charged and going to prison. All this, because, remember, the President’s team will now, for the first time, have the RIGHT to question all of these people under oath - and they will turn on each other. That’s already starting.

4. Lastly, one more thing will happen – the Senate will not convict the President. Nothing will happen to Trump. Most Americans are clueless about political processes, the law, and the Constitution. Most Americans believe that being impeached results in removal from office. They don’t understand that phase 2 is a trial in and by the Senate, where he has zero chance of conviction. Remember, the Senate is controlled by Republicans; they will determine what testimony is allowed — and **everything** will be allowed, including: DNC collusion with the Clinton campaign to fix the election in favor of Hillary, the creation of the Trump dossier, the cover up and destruction of emails that very likely included incriminating information. They’ll incriminate each other for lying to the FISA court, for spying and wiretapping the Trump campaign, and for colluding with foreign political actors, especially George Soros. After the Senate declines to convict the President, we will have an election, and Trump will win. It will be a backlash against democrat petulance, temper tantrums, hypocrisy and dishonesty. Even minorities will vote for Trump, because, for the first time, they will see that democrats have spent 2+ years focused on maintaining their own power, and not doing anything at all about black murders in Chicago, homelessness, opioids, and other important issues that are actually killing people. And, we will spend the following four years listening to politicians and pundits claim that the whole impeachment was rigged somehow.

Congress has the authority to impeach but then only the Senate can remove from office following a Senate trial with a Two-Thirds Vote.

Everybody forgets that part.

From afar through the tinted glass of the media it appears to me that Pelosi understands what a loser impeachment is for her party (and her).

They would pay a heavy price for impeachment.

Lest we forget, the President can also mount a defense during such a proceeding and he would take full advantage of the opportunity. For many Americans who only hear the biased media in snippets I think the other side of the story would be pretty eye-opening.

Pelosi is trying to placate the problem children in her own caucus and make the smart play politically. I am not sure if they will let her thread the needle.

Win - win

Excellent summary @ post 25

This is why I very much want them to impeach. It is the only way the President’s attorneys could subpoena witnesses. Imagine the questions that would be asked under oath -

Did you or the Obama administration spy on and unmask political opponents? If so, who authorized such spying? These are questions that we are all hoping the AG will find answers for, but to see the answers during the spectacle of an impeachment trial in the senate would be something even CNN could not ignore or spin.

And you know how? Sorry but no they aren’t. Not without committing political suicide. The nasty little problem with impeachment is that the President council can demand to call withnesses under oath who are involved in the discovery process....and there’s not a damn thing the democraps can do. So that’s Comey, Brennen, Mueller, Hillary, Rice, Stroke, Page, Ohrr and his whore bag wife and even the ring leader, Obama himself, because he can be subponeaed. All under oath and all have to tell the truth, because Trump has the classified as well as the DOJ.

Pelosi is stupid, but not that stupid

It is their only hope. And they have already passed 9,500 feet in a 10,000 foot free-fall.

THEIR President holds all the “TRUMP” cards

“They’ll try but they won’t succeed.”

We have to keep on praying. I hope God is inclined to answer the prayer of the lady who did the invocation at the last Rally. She had it nailed that the root cause of the Rats’ actions are demonic. Her prayer was practically an exorcism.

They will do this to weaken Trump in the next election, as they know the vote has no chance in the US House or Senate.

The act of Impeachment means it PASSED in the US House.

Then, on to the Senate, and that is when Discovery and Cross Examination can occur.

And the whole Democrat coup attempt is laid bare before all Americans.

How stupid are they? (No need to answer that.)

Clinton was impeached during his first term and he easily won re-election. [Sigh].

They will impeach so that they can call Trump “the impeached president”. They will get 52 or 53 votes in the Senate so that they can claim that a majority of the senate wants him removed. All payback for slick Willy.

If they lack support in the House to impeach then they will not continue with the process. High-crimes & misdemeanors is such a low threshold that it could be just because they do not like President Trump. Besides I believe they probably could get the votes necessary to impeach him. However, like you said the Senate will not vote to convict. They run a big risk though of provoking some who may not have voted for him to change their mind and vote for President Trump to be reelected. I personally do not think Nancy will bring it up for a vote, because she knows the inherent pitfalls for doing so may backfire more than help.
