Mysterious bright, white dot in Dayton skies may be part of government program
WHIO ^ | June 20, 2019

Babb stopped short of confirming that the bright, white dot spotted by numerous News Center 7 viewers was indeed a DARPA balloon, however another spokesperson for DARPA said given the location it was likely one of their balloons.

Sightings of the object were reported Tuesday to News Center 7 from viewers in Xenia, Englewood, West Milton, West Carrollton and Eaton.

DARPA’s ALTA program’s balloons can fly at altitudes of more than 75,000 feet.

“While they do not have independent propulsion, the ALTA vehicle is designed to navigate by changing altitude and thus taking advantage of different wind profiles aloft,” according to DARPA’s website.

Ha. I remember the Barney Miller episode with Wojo on the phone to... I think it was the FBI, saying, “What? I can’t tell them that! Oh come on! (sigh) Yes sir. Yes sir.” Then he hangs up and says sarcastically, “It’s a weather balloon.”

It’s either a weather balloon, or an intergalactic jellyfish. Not to offend any fans of The Abyss, but my money is on weather balloon.

Given the close proximity to Wright Patterson AFB, I would imagine this is likely.

Reminds me of the first time I saw a stealth fighter. My son was playing soccer in a tournament near there, in Englewood. You couldn’t hear one sound of an approaching jet, and then, out of nowhere, there it was right on top of us! Gave me goose bumps and sense of pride in my country.

“Given the close proximity to Wright Patterson AFB, I would imagine this is likely.”

Correction, I meant, unlikely to be a weather balloon.

“That’s interesting, they just had some white dots in the sky in Kansas City.”

I was with my mother as she was hanging laundry one fine summer day in Nashville, I believe it was 1959. I looked up and their were three triangles hanging way up in the sky and I told my Mom to look. I then went back to playing with my dog.

“...the ALTA vehicle is designed to navigate by changing altitude and thus taking advantage of different wind profiles aloft”

People who are into High Altitude Balloon Photography are able to control their balloon flight and altitude. Amateur balloons get up to 115,000 feet. Their autonomously controlled balloons fly at 80,000 feet and have flown from California to Morocco.

About that same year on LI I was out at dusk in the back yard. All the neighbors were out in their yards looking up. I looked up and saw about 9 round discs with red lights in a formation of 3’s, 3 rows. Pretty low in the sky.

Very early memory for me.

Blue dots? Are you sure it was the blue dots?

That actually does look like a weather balloon. Launching something in daylight over the place “where they took the aliens” does not seem like a good “test plan.”
