a car driving down the road with its back up (reverse) lights on? I see this fairly frequently and cant figure out what would cause it and why it is so common.
Excessive use of perfume and/or aftershave!
No doubt about it!
Subaru even had a recall for this very problem.

Not meshing with theory, this problem appears most commonly on older pickups?
Unlikely they are using LEDs. With the low current draw, the contacts are no longer self-cleaning.
I love my diesel
I worked for years with a gaggle of devout diesel heads.
They convinced me to follow in their ways.
I totally lusted for a VW Amarok, and VW was promising US production...
Then the dumbass nazis totally destroyed the diesel auto as we know it.
Our son had and loved a VW diesel until they made him an offer too generous to refuse.
He drives 100 miles EACH way five days a week.
He has driven and likes the EVs, now watching the price parity.
Until about three months ago, I had a Vibe. My two daughters still have theirs.
Got almost 300,000 miles on mine. Finally the original clutch started to slip and I got rid of it. Did absolutely nothing to the car repair wise. Until the clutch, the most expensive repairs were a wheel bearing and a serpentine belt.
I think the girls cars are around 180,000 miles each. No issues.
Stupidest thing GM ever did was to cancel that car. It was well built and the perfect size. One daughter managed to stuff three kayaks into hers.
“looking like a squadron of related panels going down the road in loose formation.”
I took a tour of the NUMMI plant in CA. They were built on the same line as a Corolla. That’s why I bought one. Toyota with GM sheetmetal.
I think the Vibes were prettier. I have no problems with visibility. Very handy cars. Like a Honda Element without the ugliness.
I think the stupidest thing GM did was not market it properly.
Last year, my daughter came out to her car in a parking lot. There was a note on it from a guy offering to buy it.
The Matrixes were definitely not the best looking Toyotas ever, but the first versions were cleaner than the last ones and had better outward visibility. I agree about the handiness... it was an early Matrix that kicked me solidly into the ranks of AWD 5-door believers.
(”If you can have only one car, make it a, AWD 5-door hatchback.”)
These days I daily drive Subarus (which are hardly perfect, but like the Matrix and Vibe, are very useful).
Yeah, this guy definitely comes off like a used car salesman. Honestly, I think he was a smart and innovative car guy 20 years ago and earned his good name but these days, he’s on sale to the highest bidder.
