Michael Flynn fires legal team with sentencing looming on federal charges

Former Trump national security adviser Michael Flynn has fired his legal team as he awaits sentencing for lying to the FBI about his conversations with a top Russian official, according to a new filing Thursday from his long-time attorneys.

The lawyers, Robert Kelner and Stephen Anthony, offered no explanation for their abrupt dismissal in a two-page motion delivered to the federal judge who will mete out Flynn’s punishment stemming from his 2017 guilty plea to Robert Mueller’s prosecutors.

In their filing, the attorneys said Flynn had notified them that “he is terminating Covington & Burling LLP as his counsel and has already retained new counsel for this matter.”

They did not identify Flynn’s new legal team and declined comment when asked by POLITICO who now represents the former senior Trump aide...

I do not think they served him that well. They should have made a better case for entrapment, fruit of the poisonous tree, or similar argument.

I sure hope, at some point, it comes to light that most, if not all, of these convictions resulting from the Mueller investigation are “fruit from the poisonous tree” and are all charges and convictions dismissed.

Probably he told them to investigate those who testified against him and they refused.
Sure seems like a Dumb and Dumber law firm

Most, if not all law firms, are in it for the money. If along the way they happen to help one of their clients, they’ll use that as a resume item towards earning more business. Flynn’s attorneys were failures, especially when the whole Trump/Russia case was nothing more than a set-up to remove a president from office.

Something is definitely afoot. If he can get those transcripts released, or Trump/Barr does, and they counter Mueller’s report, it could actually lead to criminal charges for the prosecutors.

FWIW, Bill Clinton was very poorly represented in the Paula Jones case. He could have avoided impeachment if he’d just hired a really bad lawyer who forgot to file an answer to the complaint. Then he would have defaulted and the only issue would have been damages. Instead his lawyers went into full defense and then Clinton got caught in a lie during what was an avoidable deposition.

Flynn has been very poorly represented in his case. He should have pleaded not guilty and demanded a speedy trial. The prosecution would have folded their tents. They had nothing. They still don’t.

Sometimes the highest paid attorneys are the worst.

The entire case should be thrown out due to Mueller misconduct.

The difference is that Clinton was guilty.

Notice how everyone caught up in the Mueller scam were directed to deep state lawyers who absolutely screwed them over.

Holder is under contract to the state and has filed several anti trump suits. Cal has about fifty suits against feds. Half against trump iirc

He was guilty of sexual harassment (not a crime), but in defending himself he committed perjury (a felony). He should have just ignored the summons and defaulted on the Civil case. Then he would not have had to submit to a deposition. He could have maintained his innocence and just say “ hey, my lawyer forgot to file an answer”.

I suspect the damages would have been substantially lower than the final settlement.

This was one of the best entrapment cases in history.

The FBI contacted General Flynn as part of the transition team. They just want to chat about the incoming administration’s foreign policy ideas and plans. Very informal; just a getting-to-know-you thing.

Gen Flynn actually *asks* if he should bring a lawyer. Noooooooo, no, of course not! Not necessary! Trust us.

We all know what happened next. The agents, led by Stzrok, had every intention of setting their traditional perjury trap.

At no point was General Flynn told that anything he told agents could be later used against him.

He was never allowed or even told he could have an attorney with him.

Try this on some scum bag street criminal and dems will be screaming bloodyarse murder.

He probably should have been fully Mirandized at some point.

When General Flynn still refuses to play their games to take President Trump down, they deploy their nuclear option—they threaten his son with criminal prosecution.

Thus begins the destruction of a career military officer who is an actual war fighter, not a Perfumed Prince. General Flynn completely overhauled our CT strategy in the Middle East.

Note that the government’s lust to obliterate General Flynn did not begin with Trump. Flynn committed Truth Telling crimes against Obama.

The General was vocal in his opposition to BHO’s Afghanistan policy. And, even better; Flynn demanded an audit of the CIA, going all the way back to WWII (early Bush years).

The punchline to all of this is that General Flynn never lied to the FBI and they have acknowledged it.

This is so far beyond despicable. Why are we not rioting in the streets?
