For the first time since it opened in 1964, a mysterious Mormon landmark in the San Francisco Bay Area will be open to the public for a limited time before its rededication.
The newly renovated Mormon Temple in the Oakland Hills section of Oakland, California, is having an open house for a few weeks.
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints kept the temple closed for the past 14 months in order to complete renovations.
The landmark, which was first built in the 1960s, also serves as an FAA beacon which helps incoming planes navigate their landings, according to Architectural Digest.

After the Mormon temple was built in D.C., it was opened to the public for a short time. At the end of that time, it was (and has been) closed to the public, it was re-consecrated, and all the carpet, trodden on by the non-believers, was taken up and tossed with new carpet being installed.
I live about 2 miles from that temple. They do it up nice with holiday lights for the Christmas season.

Really bad Photoshop. In this pic there appear to be chairs on either side of the couch. In the next pic, taken from an angle, there are no chairs next to the couch.

I heard they were opening it last week, and will probably visit this weekend.
What I surmise is that it was “de-sanctified” in some way due to the renovations, so from now to the time of some kind of re-sanctifying ceremony it’s OK to let strangers in, but afterwards you will need to 1) be a Mormon, and 2) have a “Temple Recommend”, which more or less means you’d have to be in good standing as determined by some authority in the church. Not all Mormons get a Temple Recommend. The “Temple Recommend” thing as explained to me by a Mormon woman many years ago.
It looks like a government building: blocky, imposing, Brutalist but with minarets. Why no windows? Give me a medieval cathedral full of windows and inspiring art that pull the eyes, mind and heart to heaven.
Lots of rooms for sitting. One looks like it is preserved from the ‘50s or 60s. Another is supposed to be for quiet reflection but the couches and chairs are arranged like a hotel lobby for conversation. The baptismal room is the only one that gives me a clear indication it is for religious ceremony but something about it creeps me out. Only the north chapel looks at all church like, akin to a very nicely appointed version of a small town Baptist church. Most of the rest of it just looks like a nice conference center.

Mormons are part of a cult, including their many separate sects. Their behavior could not stand the light of public view of their activities, hence their secretive ways. Like most cults, the most important goal is the expansion of the organization. Their members serve no purpose beyond achieving that goal and providing power to the men who comprise the leadership.
ONZ, that's so sinister!!! Who else but Mormons! (*screech!*) would put full-length mirrors in a brides' room?!? They're ruining this country!
