In 1964 we went to the State Track Meet in Gainesville. The first night our coach took us to see “From Russian With Love”.
There was a line of college students around the block. It moved fairly quickly tho. While standing in line I noticed several Corvettes parked. I don’t think I had ever seen one before.
I think it is held in Tallahassee now.

Small Block Chev sound with Classic Chambered Vette Pack mufflers.
These are aftermarket 40” long sidepipe mufflers with no packing, just formed chambers along the length.

There are some pretty nice car shows here in New York City, Queens mostly. But the weather, because of GoreBull Warming, has been unusually chilly. Lots of rain too. They had to cancel several of the shows. Hopefully the weather will improve later this week. Got down to the 40s, factoring in wind chill.

I’m probably too accustomed to viewing C2 vettes through the years that were totally stock (maybe with optional rims from the factory, like my b-i-l’s 67 convertible), that those rims just don’t look right on that car. Too 21st century or something. The spoke symmetry just gives me the impression of chrome coated plastic. I’m sure that they are plenty strong, but they LOOK fragile. I realize that the spoke design is intentional, as though they are trying to give a slight impression of real wire wheels. That, and the extremely low profile tires look out of place for that machine.
Otherwise, the car is terrific.

The words to this song were printed in Time magazine when I was a preteen. I memorized them then and have been able to sing along with Shut Down ever since. So proud!

This one below also has the low profiles, too. But, IMO, the spoke pattern is better suited.
Seeing those newer wheels and tires on all kinds of old classics now. Got a friend who posts pics on FB, 50’s and 60’s Chevys, Fords mostly. Gorgeous classics, some with nice custom paint, but the modern wheels and tires are out of synch. Like a suicide knob on a Ferrari steering wheel.
A classmate’s older brother worked at the local GM plant and got a new vette the year the 427 came out. Little brother talked him out of the keys but it scared him, he hadn’t driven much. We were 16. He told me to drive and said to “lay some rubber”. We were on a fairly wide street at night but cars were parked on both sides. I stopped, floored it, popped the clutch and next thing I knew smoke was everywhere and I couldn’t see anything. I backed off and we came to halt facing almost the opposite way. Never touched a thing though, she went in a tight circle, to the left.
In high school I had a friend who had a Chrysler 413. It had 3 two barrels. I remember his Father was an engineer. Chrysler seemed to be pushing engineering in that era.
I didn’t think it was all that fast but it might have been the driver.
