Landmark UN plastic waste pact gets approved but not by US
Associated Press ^ | May 11, 2019

Nearly every country in the world has agreed upon a legally binding framework to reduce the pollution from plastic waste except for the United States, U.N. environmental officials say.

An agreement on tracking thousands of types of plastic waste emerged Friday at the end of a two-week meeting of U.N.-backed conventions on plastic waste and toxic, hazardous chemicals.

Discarded plastic clutters pristine land, floats in huge masses in oceans and rivers and entangles wildlife, sometimes with deadly results. […]

The deal affects products used in a broad array of industries, such as health care, technology, aerospace, fashion, food and beverages. …

The simple fact of all these “UN Conventions” is that the US is already doing far more than nearly any other nation.

If you want to reduce plastic in the ocean - look to CHINA.

We then tie ourselves down to controls and a political narrative (and required funding) which is treated as a scam by many 3rd world, socialist nations.

95% of the plastic in the ocean is from two continents....
Asia and Africa.

Would like to read the resolution. Would like to find out why we didn’t sign on to it. Looked for the resolution’s text and couldn’t find it.

as soon as a dem regains the presidency, they will sign us onto this- unfortunately- and will likely give away nearly all our sovereignty

China...you forgot India. China and India account for something like 90% of the ocean plastic waste.

A lot of thar plastic the Chinese put in the ocean supposedly comes from the US to be “recycled.” I woildn’t call sending our trash to the third world, “doing more than anyone else.” Once we can no longer export this stuff, we’re going to have to figure out how to deal with it on our own shores, for better or worse (hopefully better).

JFTR, Red China is a second world country, having been part of the communist bloc for seven decades.

They are still a “developing country” according to current UN sophistry (which replaced “first/second/third world” with “developed/developing” countries), a category they now share with most of the former third world. They have of course abused that “developing” status to the hilt.

it’s fact citing- dems are itching to give away our sovereignty to a foreign entity- that is a fact- America at some point will forget how bad it was under democrat rule, fall for the new lie about ‘hope and change, and will at some point elect another dem- that too is a fact- Americans are fickle, which is why we didn’t win the House- who in their right mind thought with the economy coming back so wonderfully as it was under Republican rule, that it would be a good idea to give the house to the dems? Fickle Americans- While it’s fine to think positively, the fact is Americans suffer from short term memory loss- We just have to face that fact, and seriously pray to God that He instill them with enough wisdom to keep electing Republicans for a good long while-

Don’t be so sure. And don’t cite opinion as fact. Why do you think Dems have to rely so heavily on voter fraud?

it’s not opinion, it’s fact- dems have been desperately trying to give our sovereignty away- The republicans have had to pull us out of agreements dems got us into because they violated our sovereignty- and it’s also a fact that people have short term memory loss- and midterm elections is proof- the election of carter clinton and obama is proof- They forget how awful things get under democratic rule- they forget how high they get taxed- how bad the economy does- etc- that isn’t opinion-

The planet will be here for a long, long, LONG time after we’re gone, and it will heal itself, it will cleanse itself, ’cause that’s what it does. It’s a self-correcting system. The air and the water will recover, the earth will be renewed. And if it’s true that plastic is not degradable, well, the planet will simply incorporate plastic into a new paradigm: the earth plus plastic. The earth doesn’t share our prejudice toward plastic. Plastic came out of the earth. The earth probably sees plastic as just another one of its children. Could be the only reason the earth allowed us to be spawned from it in the first place. It wanted plastic for itself. Didn’t know how to make it. Needed us. Could be the answer to our age-old egocentric philosophical question, “Why are we here?”

Plastic… a_______e.”

I do agree that it is fact that it has been primarily Democrats who have been trying to subsume US sovereignty—of course with the aid of their RINO counterparts.

However, I don’t hold the notion of another Democratic POTUS in the near future as necessarily factual. Not that a RINO POTUS is any better, mind you. The worse the crisis gets, the longer the memory.

I woildn’t call sending our trash to the third world, “doing more than anyone else.”

First of all, exactly how much "trash" is the US sending China? Any figures? Secondly, it takes two to tango - China has traditionally been a huge importer of off-grade and second-hand steel, copper, paper and plastic to be recycled to feed its own economy and offer very cheap raw materials which the hundreds of millions of poor Chinese peasants. When the Chinese government decides this is no longer needed and wants cut the trade off, they will do exactly that. You don't ever have to worry about the Chinese Communist Party and Government being taken-advantage of.

I have a friend who buys used Canadian truck tires and ships them to SE Asia and Latin America. Canada has very strict inspection requirements for its trucks, which leave some significant tread on the tires. Truckers in places like Burma or El Salvador will use those very inexpensive tires for another 10-20,000 miles. Then they will re-tread them. Is that trash?

[[another Democratic POTUS in the near future]]

Did i mention near future? No- at some point it’s going to happen though- and as you pointed out yourself, they rely on voter fraud- and will continue and succeed at some point- Trump has done a fantastic job and I believe He can get another term, and the country will be well enough off that a republican wins after him- maybe several more terms- , but Get a mediocre republican in as president after trump, and independents that went rep. to vote for trump will lose interest and move back dem- This is a fickle nation- and again, the proof is carter, clinton, obama, and the recent midterms- Again, We need to pray God gives people enough wisdom to avoid electing a dem for a good long time, because as soon as it happens, it’s going to destroy much of what we’ve gained under republican leadership- It’s not reasonable to think the country won’t by hook or crook, elect another dem at some point- and when it does- We’re in trouble as a nation- You’ve seen the dems frothing at the mouth lusting to take our constitutional rights away- it won’t be pretty-
