Ford invests $500 million in electric pickup startup Rivian, will make an EV together
Electrek ^ | 24 April 2019 | Fred Lambert

Along with the investment, Ford confirmed that it will use Rivian’s electric platform to develop a Ford-branded all-electric vehicle.

Last year, we took a close look at Rivian’s electric platform, which the startup claims enable a range of up to 400 miles.

Rivian was already using Ford F-150 pickups as test mules to test its powertrain for its own R1T pickup, but the two companies confirmed that the vehicle they are partnering on is not an electric F-150.

In the unlikely event, you had any interest in a Rivian puck up.

11,000 pounds
But Rivian promises the R1T will deliver more than what you’d find in a conventional pickup truck of this size. For one thing, the R1T has a towing capacity of 11,000 pounds, which is more comparable to the capability of a higher-end F-150.

Another Edel. What outdoorsman would buy an electric truck? Sell Ford stock. It is managed by fools.

FWIW.....

*I am here in Southeast MI.
* Those that work for the big 3 or 4 don't talk like they used too, everything is as if it is a Stealth Fighter @ Area 51.
* With that said, you can sense the ethereal paradigm shift is here, those in the biz know it.
* To the point that if you are not down with it, maybe it is time to take the layoff/retirement package.
* You can see it via the EvTechExpo show in Novi MI in the fall.
* You can see it in the supplier base as they scramble to develop products that are saleable to this marketspace. Case in point one well known transmission manufacturer ( think exotic cars ) had a big spread in SAE's magazine about their efforts with their combo motor/transaxle.

But for Ford to throw 500 Mil @ a company during the throws of a reorganization? That has caught my eye.

Just like their taking a stake in SolidPower's Solid State Lithium Ion Battery, and sending them 20 million.

I had a plug-in Hybrid that ran for 20 miles on pure Electric for a short time.

Forget about saving the planet, the torque is addicting. I can't wait to drive something that has the "Skateboard" platform with a low center of gravity.

Who the hell cares about what makes it go?

A comfortable quiet ride and the TCO.

Are you the guy with the sign:
Kill the coal mines, before they kill us?

Didn’t think so, just had to ask.

Ford confirmed that it will use Rivian’s electric platform to develop a Ford-branded all-electric vehicle.

I sure there's a big demand among farmers and outdoorsmans for a vehicle to 'self immolate' when they need their vehicles the most.

This is the insight that can make money.

Years ago the security guy at work mentioned, they were going with a new system when you badge in it would display your photo on a screen. Apple based.

At one site they said they had a warehouse full of Apple computers for the changeover.

AAPL has been very good to me, but I sold
too soon.

Rivian is not publicly traded?

Now I need to keep my eyes open.
Got a hunch?... Buy a bunch!

Thank you!

Within 200m of my bunker, a nearly new Ford w/ice, caught fire shortly after parking it in his garage.

House and garage all gone.

Happens.

The only issues with electrics is the energy store. Get that licked and electrics are the way to go. Clean, quiet, simple motors with boatloads of torque. What’s not to like about that?

the torque is addicting.

Because.... what everyone needs is a car that goes from 0 to 150 in six seconds.

First, they told us that we had to forego V8 engines and large cars in favor of 4 cyl Pintos and Vegas.

Then they told us we needed to go electric (Prius and Smart Cars).

Meanwhile they produce V-8, V-10, V-12 engines and put them into Supercars that will go over 200mph.

Now, they are prepping for the All Electric Supercar/Suv/Truck Market with blinding acceleration.

Because ... that's what we need and... uh... climate change. ( I guess we can somehow outrun the climate change with these new vehicles)

I wonder what kind of massive 'charger' these 'super' EVs will take? What good is it if you can go 200mph but have to sit at a charging station for 2 hours ?

Dg... Do your due diligence, that wasn’t ment to be investment advice. With that said, if you look @ the EV media & even the auto & biz media, & even what the ceo’s are saying you could say there is a trend.

8 hour recharge times? EV are automotive devolution. Less range and long recharge times = no convenience at all.
