A strong 6.1 magnitude earthquake struck the northern Philippine island of Luzon on Monday.

The earthquake was centered about 60 km (37 miles) northwest of the capital city of Manila, which is home to more than 12 million people. It's magnitude was initially rated as strong as 6.3.

At least five fatalities have been confirmed so far in Pampanga province, according to Pampanga governor Lilia Pineda. More than 20 other people were injured due to collapsed buildings and walls in the province.

Search and rescue operations are ongoing for at least 19 missing individuals, according to the Philippine Red Cross.

Im north of Pampanga near to Dagupan and would have felt it save i was outside feeding the dogs.. No damage up here. Death toll up to 11 as of an hour ago. Power grid is already taxed with the heat, this has not helped... It is good to have a generator backup!

No, not near me. It was Pampanga province, northwest of Manila, actually I think it was centered in Zambales province, which is where Subic Bay Navy base was. It also affected Pampanga, where the old Clark Air Base was (Angeles City) My old California Air Force friend, lives near Clark. He said it was pretty scary, but I didn’t even know about it, till about 3 hours after it happened, since I am about 450 miles south of there. He told me about it, but lost power for 3 hours after the quake, so he was 3 hours late in letting me know. Unfortunately, I think there were some fatalities at Clark.

We’re way over due here in Mexifornia. Maybe that’ll be a good thing. And you know they’ll blame it on Trump and “climate change”.

I have been to Dagupan myself. I saw Hundred Islands, at Alaminos, Pangasinan. You are right. It is hot, since April is the hottest month. It would be nice to be in Baguio or Tagatay, but there are plenty of places that are high in the mountains, where the weather is completely different. We head to the mountains of Davao Del Norte. We are located 10 minutes from the Island Garden City of Samal. 😁

When I visited the Philippines in the ‘70s, I danced at the rooftop restaurant at the Manila Hilton. I did sway. Not sure about the building.
Hope all is well there today.

I know Philippines covers a huge area and my knowledge of the geography is pretty limited, to say the least.

Glad you’re OK, and sorry to hear about the losses.

Live here in Angeles City, which is right next door to the old Clark Air Force Base. Its now an international airport. Earthquake didn't last long, but it definitely rocked the building I was in at the time. Power was restored, at least where I live, about 7-8 hrs after the earthquake. No flights in or out of Clark since. I live near the flight path to Clark, and nothing overhead.

Another earthquake, registering a 6.3, has hit eastern Samar earlier today, which is about 350 miles southeast of Manila. The one that hit here yesterday was a 6.1, I believe.

We DID have a quake about a month ago, and it was scary. The house swayed for about 15 seconds, and then stopped. As I recall, it was centered in Mati, east of here. I looked over at the maid, and her head was bobbing up and down, as she was counting the seconds till it stopped. It was scary, but not nearly as scary as the 1989 Loma Prieta quake, in the San Francisco Bay area, that interrupted the 1989 World Series in San Francisco. That was the worst I ever saw.

I was at Clark in 1987. I was not stationed there. I was actually stationed at Travis at the time, but flew over to Clark on a C-5. That was a miserable trip, but we kept telling ourselves, we are flying halfway around the world for free.
They had an annual exercise at Clark, called Cope Thunder, while Team Spirit was in Korea.
Now, I am in Davao City, the durian capital of the world. That stuff is awful, but I won’t touch balut, or dinuguan either. Cebu Pacific, and Philippine Airlines both fly from Davao, directly to Clark, bypassing Manila altogether. Either my friend will come here, or we will go to Clark. I am not sure where he lives, but he said it’s about 20 minutes from Clark.
Speaking of Cebu, we were there a few weeks ago. I had to go to the US Consulate, located in a big hotel. If you need their services, don’t go to Manila, and fight that traffic. Just go to Cebu. It’s so much easier.

My asawa told me about it last night (our 4/22, your 4/23)

My SIL and family was at a swimming resort in Manila on that day and felt the movement but didn't know what it was.

This is the first article I've seen
