Suspect accused of chasing Austin, TX man with knife at Garrison Park

AUSTIN (KXAN) — A knife-wielding suspect allegedly chased a man after he inappropriately touched his girlfriend at Garrison Park, court documents said. Officers responded to the park located at 6001 Manchaca Road right next to Crockett High School in south Austin last Tuesday after a caller said a man with a knife was chasing his friend.

When officers arrived, the victim told them he got a text from his girlfriend that said a strange guy touched her inappropriately while at the park. He went to the park immediately and confronted who police identified as 53-year-old Robert Lopez. At first, the victim said he told Lopez to leave and he started to walk off, but then he approached him and took out a knife. Lopez then allegedly said, "I'm going to ---- y'all up!" The victim told police that after he said that, he started chasing him, but the victim was able to get away and left. Lopez was described as having a skull tattoo on his forearm and playboy bunny tattoo on his hand, and an AISD officer later found Lopez at the park with a knife on him.

He is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Wonder what would be a solution to this problem, being as it happened in Texas? Maybe the woman should just let the man touch her and let it go. Maybe we can touch the wives/girlfriends of Mexicans in the same way and they'll just let it go. Maybe someone could find this Lopez guy's woman/daughter and touch her inappropriately since he's in jail. I don't know....suggestions, advice?

This is a horrifically written article. The guy was arrested with a knife on him, the article says he chased the guy will having a knife on him. He didn’t say that he had a knife out and threatened him. Having a knife is not illegal. Now, threatening the guy may simply be blowing off anger, may be a threat. But did he act on it, no. I guess one could argue that this was after the attack on his girlfriend, not during the attack, so it would become a question of whether that was acceptable or not. Seems like the guy should get off with a warning about how to better handle this in the future. Now the guy who assaulted his girlfriend, should be in jail, really long time.

In all seriousness, one of my Martial Arts teachers said that if somebody comes at you with a knife, run. Just keep away from the person and try to put whatever you can between yourself and him.

Another one said that if you get into a knife fight, you ARE going to get cut. This isn’t a Steven Segal movie.
