Three days after Johnny Bobbitt Jr. was sentenced for his role in a GoFundMe campaign that netted $402,706 and defrauded donors with a fake Good Samaritan tale, Katelyn McClure appeared before the same judge in Superior Court in Mount Holly to admit her role in a conspiracy that preyed on peoples sympathies.
McClure, 29, of Bordentown, pleaded guilty Monday before Judge Christopher Garrenger as part of an agreement that calls for her to face a four-year prison term. McClure admitted that she and her ex-boyfriend, Mark DAmico, befriended Bobbitt, 36, a former homeless veteran, outside a Philadelphia casino. She said the couple then made up a story about Bobbitt offering her his last $20 when she ran out of gas off I-95 in Philadelphia, in an area where he had been panhandling in November 2017. She said DAmico, 39, of Florence, told her that this was for Johnny and if I did it, it would help Johnny out. She said she and DAmico had given Bobbitt money when he was panhandling and even brought him small gifts.
Under McClures agreement with county prosecutors, she admitted to a single charge of theft by deception, which would be downgraded to a third-degree crime. In return, a conspiracy charge would be dropped. She also agreed to testify against DAmico and Bobbitt, and to cooperate with authorities.
Sentencing is scheduled for June 3 in the Burlington County courthouse.

I didn’t send them any money but I believed the story.
That $400,000 they raised could have been put to good use.
They stole from the people that needed that money.
They robbed from the needy.
Thats about as low as you can get.
Government hates the competition.
I bet if they set up a GoFundMe page that describes their legal troubles and financial hardships, they could pull in another $400K.
It was SUCH a feel good story, and me being a natural cynic/skeptic.. I thought there was something a little too good to be true about the story. I really hated being right on this one, it was a great story.
Bobbitt... I wonder how you could punish a guy named Bobbitt? I’ll go ask Lorena...
LOL
It is kind of a long story so I won’t go into much of the details, but at work we transported a homeless vet to the hospital. I noticed on his ID that it was his birthday the next day so we took him a cake. A week later when the hospital was getting ready to release him they called us. He ended up living with us for a month while we tried to make arrangements for him. We were eventually successful, and he was reunited with his family. But this was a lot more work and more expensive than we had imagined that it would be.
We tried to help some other people the same way, but this was the only time we had a truly successful outcome.
So when this story came out I made the assumption that these two were trying to accomplish the same thing that we did and I was sympathetic to the story.
Its good people like you that are victimized by people like this, dont let those a$$holes change you!
Where is the line on scam? Can I set up a go fund me to fund my misadventures 4 wheeling in the desert to look for signs of climate change? I can definitely see climate change nearly everywhere in Nevada, from ancient shorelines high on the hills to petrified wood with tree stumps as large as sequoias. Can I do that?
Our society wants to help the homeless but the government does not. They put roadblocks everywhere. If we put 1 bed pod efficiencies in a park with no air conditioning so the homeless would have a place to live, the government would work overtime to screw it up. The reason we have many of the homeless is because the government shut down the flop houses.
A gift is a gift.
The scammers on the sidewalks and intersections aren’t even prosecuted for tax avoidance, let alone fraud.
