UPDATED AT 8PM WITH DETAILS ON SHOOTING: Los Angeles police are reporting one person was killed and three others sustained injuries during a shooting incident at today’s funeral procession for slain rapper/entrepreneur Nipsey Hussle.

Didn’t see that coming.
Here in Chicago a while back some gang bangers chased the funeral procession down the Dan Ryan Expressway shooting at them. Of course the fine folks in the procession shot back.

I like the use of the word “marred” in the headline...as if the hearse was misfiring on two cylinders or some other minor blemish on the proceedings...

The thing that is really sad, in addition, is that Nipsey Hussle (whose real name was a complicated Eritrean name) was working very hard to keep young people out of gangs, get jobs into the neighborhoods, encourage young people to participate in the legal economy, particularly through entrepreneurism. He had set up a foundation to help with these goals, and had remained in the neighborhood and kept his business there.
Nothing is going to change in these neighborhoods until they get rid of the gangs, and they’ll never get rid of the gangs until they start cooperating with the police and get courts and city systems that are serious about stamping this out. Instead all they’re getting is a flood of new gangs from other countries, thanks to the insane sanctuary city policy.
The Great Society Welfare State helped to create the gangs. As long as the Welfare State is parenting new gang babies there will be more gang members. The Welfare State is the fuel that feeds the fire. The burn is the result.
That is sad; the fact is these urban ghettoes can’t be improved because too many interests want them to stay just as they are - political, drug trade, social programs - all need the status quo to make money.
