China doesn't concern itself with 'community input' panels and 'environmental impact' studies.

Have you ever heard of the Chinese protesting a pipeline or challenging eminent domain or screaming NIMBY?

Thank goodness this ignorant SOB didn’t head up NASA 50 years ago.

All they need is more muslim outreach and a handful of black women to do the math and we’re there!

I think the 2024 time frame is an unnecessary political goal, and will return an event that will neither be as robust or as scientifically productive, than would a later, more measured date that was already set for 2028. Shortcuts will be taken, mission mandates trimmed, mission target achievements trimmed, mission science targets trimmed, everything trimmed to make the time to take off shorter. Not worth it just being sooner.

I remember when Reagan was lambasted in the press with claims that he was not investing enough money fast enough in federal research to find a cure for “aids”. He didn’t change gears just to appear to get to the goal sooner. He knew how science and big projects work. Throwing more money at them faster may not get to any goals sooner, and what achievements you do make may be less than, and less complete than what you were expecting. It is not merely a factor of man hours. You are dealing with many unknowns that are yet to be fully understood. You know the initial up front questions and are working on the answers to them. You do not yet know the many questions that will yet come up in finding those answers, and what it will take to answer those questions, and what new questions needing answers will come from that. Until you know enough, you are not sure of how much time you need.

NASA engineers think they already know answers to the big questions. Now they are looking at the questions coming up in working out those answers. They know their processes and limits pretty well. Based on past experience on all of NASA’s projects, 2028 looked like a good and achievable goal. They should be left to it and criticized if they don’t make it. Cutting their time left to take-off by nearly half does not sound prudent or wise. It just sounds political.

This is not about Trump. This is about the processes of big science and engineering projects.

Explain to me again why we have NASA? It’s obviously not for anything to do with going into space. So what’s it for?

Muslim self-esteem, last I heard.

To get asuccessful bullet train network here you’d have to ban cars and trucks to force everyone presently driving to hunting and fishing locations and spontaneous make-out sessions into total dependency on public transport. And there would have to be a way to carry along one’s guns without getting arrested when you connect in a liberal ghetto/city.

The first step to that is make most men gullible and gay...so thy’re trying, but it’s still a long row to hoe.

50 years ago we landed men on the moon using slide rules and super computers that had a combined computational power of far less than your average smartphone 8088 micro processor of 35 years ago.
