Democrats were not predicting doomsday in the election, but they massively expected to win, and the fact that they lost has led to phycological issues exactly like the studied cults. The same is true with the Mueller report.
One thing studied in the doomsday cults is that there is a matrix of alternative responses to the failed prophecy, and one is to deny it failed, and come up with excuses as to why the prophecy actually came true. This is where some democrats are now.
