Blizzard conditions are rocking communities in Colorado, Nebraska, and Wyoming today as an intense low-pressure system rapidly strengthens on the central Plains. The storm became a bomb cyclone, a scary-sounding term that refers to how quickly the storm intensified. The low will be responsible for a variety of foul weather across the country over the next couple of days. The WPC's surface analysis for the central Plains at 10:00 AM CDT March 13, 2019.NOAA/WPC The low-pressure system over southeastern Colorado had a minimum central pressure of 970 millibars as of the WPCs surface analysis at 10:00 AM CDT, which is one of the lowest minimum air pressure readings ever recorded in this part of the country. The air pressure records that could fall today are a testament to the unusual placement of such a strong storm and the ill effects it'll have on the weather for everyone along its track. Todays storm is a classic example of bombogenesis, the source of the bomb cyclone term that floods social media every couple of weeks without much context behind it. Bombogenesis occurs when a low-pressure system's minimum central pressure drops at least 24 millibars over the course of 24 hours.

Land locked winter hurricane is what it looks like. “Hurricane Wrangler Bob”.
Storm name is Ulmer.
I’m hoping the engineers on the freight didn’t die.
And, yes. I’m not going to complain today about the small amount of rain and flooding we’re getting in SE Wisconsin! :)
Like ‘Fudd’?
Most of the Denver stations have gone to all-day coverage. Only one that hasn’t is the CBS station, because God forbid people miss ‘Let’s Make A Deal’.
I have an aquaintance in Eagle River where the snow depth is tremendous. Eventually all that snow will cause flooding up that way too.
