OK.... However, they only have one 5 gallon bucket, no sand, no charcoal, if they leave it out in the sun, someone else will steal the water and the bucket, and they have no electricity to heat anything. Now... what else would like to you suggest ? If you have wood, a metal bucket and a match you can make that water safe. It will taste like hell but will not give you disease.

If you have wood, a metal bucket and a match you can make that water safe. It will taste like hell but will not give you disease.Considering that they are being forced to use sewer water to begin with, one might easily assume that they are doing exactly what you said. That is... if they can find a metal bucket. And wood. And a match.
What I wonder is if they still have cigarettes ? Then it might follow that they have a lighter. If it hasn't run out of fuel yet.
