Interesting. That image will not render but when I click on ‘view image’ the original does.

Actually... no it DIDN’T.

Black Panther did 200 million opening weekend and in 300 fewer theaters. There’s also NO other counter programming at the theaters as Disney has practically over 50% of all the screens at the theaters. I was actually looking for something else to see this weekend and there’s NOTHING on at the theater BUT Captain Marvel.

I also call shenanigans on these numbers too and wouldn’t be surprised if Disney was cooking the books here too.

“Hollywood’s fixation with juvenile comic-book pablum continues untreated. And brain-dead viewers lap it up like hogs in slop.”

Yeah.

It’s all niche market now.

Nice review.

But does any of that matter?

The market will go see these films no matter what. If it’s not so good, it’s fodder for discussion.

I’m thinking about:

open border = drug money = corrupt corporations = money laundering = dirty politics = open border . . .

I just can’t believe all our young people think a good movie is the prevue I just watched. I want traditional values back.

Good for Mar-Vel getting a foothold on the summer film market and making the patriarchy toe the line.

You hear that, you unnecessary white males? You'll just have to go to the movies to have your fun, Gus.

I guess I’d prefer that they are lying, lol.

I’d still like third party verification of the numbers.

Kids today spend very little time outdoors, other than organized sports like soccer, baseball, etc.
I think the movie theater is a babysitter.

> Someone who figures out how to produce movies about these things will get rich.

It’s called anime and it’s a pretty good business in Japan.

True. My college-age daughter and many of her friends are huge into anime.

I’m glad you found a way to reference Brie’s Cryptkeeper feet.

I doubt it: Don-wanno-woke-bitch. She can continue and butch-up by making a woman happy or a man miserable.

They’re not lying per-se - but they can game the numbers. Disney could’ve pre-bought theaters for “charity” or as part of contractual obligations to the theaters.
Ant-man and Wonder Woman both did about 90 million opening weekend so that’s the benchmark. Even Disney was predicting that.

But how much was it worth to Disney’s social justice message to make a hit. What would it have said if this GRRL POWER movie had flopped?

“Today’s film makers were raised on comic books.”

I don’t see them as film makers.

They are technicians. Films are today designed assembly line products.

If the market was great literature, the same filmmakers would be making that, etc...

It’s not their decision which films to make.

When I was growing up, Hollywood made movies that were either (a) based on things that were going on at the time, or in recent history, or (b) about things that could be seen as allegory for current events or recent history.

Adults went to the movies back then and don't now.

Also audiences got tired of the Seventies cynicism and wanted something to cheer about.

Even film makers may have gotten a little tired of every movie trying to make a political comment.

But there still are a lot of good, small dramas being made, as well as films with social or political messages if that's what you want.

They just don't get the headlines or pull in the big audiences and the big bucks.

The dogs bark and the caravan rolls on.
The funny ones are the dogs who think
they can bark the caravan to a standstill.

Seen reports of people going to empty, nearly bought out theaters. Me thinks someone is inflating the numbers on this movie trying to convince the naysayers that the movie is popular when it is not. Brie Larson is clearly SJW and her comments over the past weeks/months have turned off many folks, myself included. Will not be going to see this film.

Alita, Battle Angel, however, kicked butt and was a great movie!
