Houston - A man accused of slapping a 12-year-old boy was arrested in Deer Park over the weekend. James Peace, 37, is charged with injury to a child under 15. The victim and his friend told police they were walking home from school in the 2800 block of Santa Fe when a man pulled up beside them. The boys recognized a girl in the passenger seat as a classmate. The boys said the man jumped out of the car and began shouting at them, accusing them of picking on his stepdaughter at school. He then slapped one of the boys and drove away, according to police.

The victim who was slapped said he was afraid to tell his parents what happened because the suspect warned him he would beat up anyone he told.

The next day, the victim told his teacher he was afraid to go to lunch because he didn’t want to see the suspect’s stepdaughter. He then told the teacher what happened and police were called. Police tracked down surveillance video from a home on Santa Fe Trail, along with a witness who said she saw the whole thing. When officers went to Peace’s home in La Porte, they say his stepdaughter admitted she saw Peace hit the boy. She told the officers the boys were bullying her at school and calling her names.

Good to see a dad in her life who has her back. Too bad the judge won't see it that way. Guessing the boy doesn't have a dad in his life who sees that his kids aren't punks. In days past, older brothers would take care of situations like this or the dad would haul the punk home by his collar and demand his dad to use a belt on his backside.

The left doesn’t want real men. They want candy-face wusses.

An involved dad, huh.

I feel certain the dad *doesn’t* belong to a certain group.

And I bet you can guess, too.

I went to a Catholic parochial school for 10 years. The nuns would hit you with a stick. If your dad found out the nuns had to hit you, you would get a second wuppin’.

You are right about the way things were done in the past. That said, I don’t see it as the role of a man to raise his hand in anger on anyone else’s kids except in cases of immediate danger to someone. It’s good to be protective of your own kids, but as an adult you need to come up with ways to address situations without just wailing on someone weaker.

“Discretion is the better part of valor”

Is simply inadvisable to ever strike another persons child… regardless of the reason. There are better ways to handle it.

If the kids were doing it, then he should thank his lucky stars he got off with just being slapped. His parents, and the others, should find out if what he accused their kid of was true or not, and if so, tell the DA and the Cops to drop the charges, and force their son to be a man and apologize and take his consequences.

If the kids weren’t bullying the girl, then throw the book at the Dad.

What if the man’s stepdaughter was lying?

So this guy hit another man’s son? If I were the DA, I’d prosecute. And if I were on the jury, I’d vote not guilty.

If my son was picking on a girl at school, I’d personally apologize to the girls father, and make my son apologize as well. I’d tell the cops and DA to drop the charges against him, and refuse to allow my son to cooperate with their investigation.

If my son was NOT guilty of picking on the girl, then throw the book at the guy.

My gut however, as a father, is that more than likely the kid had it coming.

He’s not going to be a very effective stepdad from jail, now is he?

As a dad to a daughter, I agree with everything you say. After the fact, were I the alleged bully’s dad (and assuming he is indeed a bully) I’d tell my kid he brought it on himself and he needs to adjust his attitude. I’d also support dropping the charges and make the boy apologize. After the fact this is what I’d do. But I’d also take the other dad aside and tell him that next time he has an issue with my son, he comes to me about it and I’ll take care of it. If he touches the boy without doing that, it’s going to go very differently the next time.

I went to a Catholic parochial school for 10 years.

I bet convicted felons are rare among that school's alumni.

Not sure if that’s true. I got a good education there…perhaps the felons that went to my school committed white collar felonies?

But boys will be boys. What we couldn’t do in school, we did in spades outside of it.

I’ll stick with my bet.

I went to Catholic school for 16 years (1st grade through Bachelor of Science).

I went to public school back when corporal punishment was allowed. What I got at school, I would get double, at home.

I do however, think the stepdad was unwise to hit the boy. The bullying should have been brought up to the school and the reprobate’s parents and eventually the cop ar school, if things did not resolve. Also, perhaps self defense training for the girl might have helped, at least to build some self confidence to stand up to the bigger.

Lived in the city where the public schools were not good. Went up through 10th grade then dad moved us to a nice clean suburb and I went 11 and 12 in a good public school. Then 2 years at junior college.

Now Catholic colleges are as leftist as most colleges. Shame really. If we didn’t have Francis as pope, the Vatican might correct that.

Dad overplayed his hand. An adult slapping someone else’s 12-year-old child is grounds for a beatdown.

You tell me and I’ll decide how to punish my child.
