It's been one week since the alleged homophobic, racist attack. They have nothing. No surprise.
I haven’t followed this case too closely, but yeah - one could make a pretty good Columbo dialogue out of it.
“So the two were wearing MAGA hats sit?”
“Yes.”
“And um (rustling papers as he searches his note), and this happened, um...”
“I told you - at 2 am.”
“Oh right, here it is, 2am, Chicago.”
“I’ve gone all over this before with the police.”
“Yes, so sorry sir. Just want to get things right so we can catch these fellows. One thing I don’t understand though. What were two guys in MAGA hats doing in Chicago at 2 am? That just doesn’t make any sense.”
“How should I know - maybe there was a Republican event that had happened, they went out for drinks afterwards, and were heading back to their hotel.”
“Oh - you’re right sir - I didn’t think of that. Well, I’ll have them look into that. That should narrow things down quite a bit - good idea sir. Well that’s it, I’ll keep you posted on what we find about these two men.”
(Leaving through the door, then turns) “Oh, I almost forgot - one more thing.....”
That was always the best part of Columbo! Then he came down on the bad guy with logic and his buddies put the bad guy in cuffs. It was a brilliant show.

If my memory serves me correctly Columbo never fired a gun in the series. I do remember one episode where he bribed another cop to take his qualifying test on the range as he knew he would have failed.

Not even the worst white supremacists walk around with a noose saying the kind of thing this liar said happened and for sure they wouldn’t leave the rope as evidence. They watch CSI too.
This smollett character needs to go to prison for the full term of anyone doing the crimes he said happened.
We can count on a gay black guy to lie his a#s off to cover for the scratches he got from the rough sex in the bathroom. Beyond that, nothing he is saying makes any sense.

The supposed "victim" is clearly an actor and not a screenwriter. He tries to make stuff up but he's not good at it.
Last week it was the top story on all of the Chicago TV Stations - this week not a word.

Of course not.
In the article itself, it brings up a serious issue: An NJ lawyer thinks the sealed grand jury testimony should be unsealed because of “historical significance”, while those opposing it maintain there are children and grandchildren of the original jurors who may be impacted by it. It would certainly set a precedence that should allow anyone to opt out of jury duty in the future.
I now understand and I absolutely agree.
In these times it is a dangerous precedent.
