Dallas Cowboy QB Tony Romo Is Finally Going To The Super Bowl (As A Network Analyst)

...[He's] given Jim Nantz, who’s been at the network since 1985, a new energy, a new vigor. “I’ve heard a lot of people say that,” Nantz told me this week. “It’s probably true. … I definitely feel like I’m trying to match up with Tony’s enthusiasm.” “I gotta be honest,” said Tracy Wolfson, the crew’s sideline reporter. “I felt reinvigorated going down the stretch of the season.” Romo’s not just an announcer. He’s an energy drink. It’s not just Romo’s thirst for football that has changed the CBS crew. As Wolfson notes, Romo’s hiring allowed a rare reset for a no. 1 network team, a chance to rethink the broadcast from the ground up...

“The Lady in Red” - Wolf!!son

Romo - has earned his spurs the hard way, on the field. Hope he has a great career on the radio.

I’ve only heard Nantz a couple of times but he has enthusiasm for the game and that is good compared to what is happening with the cowardly NFL leadership, with refs, and leftist race-agitators.

Nantz is a terrific sports broadcaster. His best work on tv includes CBS network #1 NFL broadcaster and calling The Masters golf tournament in Augusta since 1986. SB53 will be Jim’s fourth time being the lead Super Bowl broadcaster, his first without Phil Simms in the booth with him.

If Tony were half as good at football as he is at broadcasting he may have gotten to the Super Bowl... I think he’s found his true calling and that’s a surprise. I thought he would stink it up the booth the way he stunk it up the field when he was playing... Jones would likely hire him back as their QB though if he could... That’s just how crazy Jerry does it, losing year after year by keeping people he ‘likes’ around... Like Garrett... He didn’t extend his contract... If I were Garrett I’d just screw the pooch next year and teach Jerry a lesson.

Romo did not suck it up on the feild. He was just behind Staubach and Aikman for wins, even with an inferior team for most of his career. He was ripped off in Green Bay when his touchdown pass was overruled. He was one of the most accurate and clutch quarterbacks of all time and a class act

Romo ranks third in quarterback wins in Cowboys history with 78, trailing Troy Aikman (94) and Roger Staubach (85). Romo has a career passer rating of 97.1, which is the fourth-best in NFL history (minimum 1,000 pass attempts), trailing only Aaron Rodgers (104.1), Russell Wilson (99.6) and Tom Brady (97.2).

Great story, but missing the key element regarding Romo's future; his passion for golf. CBS will expand his role and perch him along side Nantz. If you think his enthusiasm for football and the Superbowl is exceptional, it's greater for golf. He'd kill to be able to call the Masters every year, not every 3 years.

Romo makes golf fun to watch, which Sir Nick Faldo proves is next to impossible. Book it. Nantz (an avid linkster) will insist they need Romo. Check Faldo's contract with CBS as to the timing.

Romo did not suck it up on the feild.

I agree. Unfortunately his exciting, scrambling style exposed him to injury for the last third to half of his career. That alone breaks up team momentum while the QB is recovering.

One of the first games I saw Tony call, he was instantly noting the line slants and where the weakness was-—every time. It was amazing. I’m thinking, does the other QB/coach know this?

To this day I don’t know if Romo had “bad games” or if he was just unlucky. I look back at some of the guys he played with, and the lines were makeshift, usually including a LOT of older bargains and/or “never-quite-made-its.” Witten was great, but we now see that Dez Bryant was a cancer and NO team will have him.

Running backs like Felix Jones, Julius Jones, Marion Barber didn’t exactly help.

Then there was a defense that allowed Denver to win despite Romo’s offense putting up over 50 points.

Yes, this was big. And TWO back injuries in a row are nearly impossible to overcome.
