Propaganda piece designed to encourage racial division activism through unwarranted aggressive confrontation promoted through CNN’s Sara Sidner attempting to rationalize defense of such activity.

He called himself a Vietnam Veteran in the article and, yeah, it looks like that may be as truthful as the rest of his interview.

Phillips described what he felt was hatred coming from the young people in the crowd...well, he is some sort of a mystical Indian character, but it's really impossible for one person to "feel" another's emotions - more likely what he "felt" was his own hatred toward whites and maybe young people, he being of advanced age himself and perhaps resentful of those who had what he wished he had - a year or two in a white man's university with a course in Introductory Psychology might have helped him grasp better what was going on.....

From Wiki:

He later moved to Washington DC.[7]

Phillips joined the Marine Corps, serving in the Vietnam War as a Recon Ranger and Infantryman.[8][9][10][11][12][13]

The footnotes have NOTHING to do with supporting his statement of being a Marine "Recon Ranger and Infantryman".

Thank you! A Ranger is a US Army designation. Per Wikipedia: “U.S. Marines presented with the Ranger Tab are not authorized to wear it on their uniforms.”

The guy is a LIAR, but Wikipedia included 5 presstitute sources for that tidbit about Phillips being a Recon Ranger. No one who has been in the military would describe themselves that way. A Marine might say of himself “Lance Corporal” or “Gunnery Sergeant” or some other widely understood rank and job. “Recon Ranger” sounds elite and dangerous, and like something a Liberal would just make up, as they do.

Let’s see the DD214.

Yes. They called us Vietnam Era Vets. During part of the war I was on Nuke Subs so not in country fighting. I don’t claim to be a Vietnam Vet, and I would never dishonor those that served in Nam by trying to glom on to their honor by using similar words. I have no sympathy for those that would. I am just an honorably discharged vet.

Thank you! Wikipedia itself cannot support the LIE and has no pages for “US Marine Corp Vietnam Recon Ranger”. Too bad journalism is yellow and dead.

Well, the Marines did have Rangers in WWII. They were special forces, basically SEALS of the day. At the end of the war, they were decommissioned. When MARSOC was formed in 2005, guys were claiming the old Ranger title, but it was not until around 2014 that Rangers name in the Marines was official again. You can search Marine Ranger and read about them. But yea, Recon Ranger? Maybe he meant he was a Power Ranger!

Not Rangers. Raiders.

The USMC never had Rangers. That’s US Army.

Wasn’t there someone in the news recently who claimed to be a Vietnam Vet - and then had to backtrack to ‘Vietnam Era’?

Yes, my bad. I am working and trying to socialize at the same time! Raiders, not Rangers.

Yes other than advisers to the Viet Marines. However in72 during the Easter Offensive a Marine air unit (F-7’s I think, was sent to the RVN and they had supporting units and a infantry security unit.

I think you mean A-7 Corsair, not F-7. PS I am a Vietnam era veteran too being in ROTC and commissioned in May 1974.
