Couple in Yosemite death plunge were intoxicated: report
fox news ^ | 01/20/2019 | Louis Casiano

The couple – who were both born in India and living in the U.S. – died of “multiple injuries to the head, neck, chest and abdomen, sustained by a fall from a mountain,” Dr. Sung-Ook Baik, a forensic pathologist in the Stanislaus County Coroner’s Office, wrote in a Jan. 4 report, reports said.

Viswanath’s brother, Jishnu Viswanath, told the Associated Press the couple were setting up a tripod-mounted camera near the ledge of Taft Point on Oct. 23. An inquiry into how the couple fell is ongoing.

“Any deaths that happen inside the park, the National Park Service rangers do the investigation of the accident itself,” Kristie Mitchell, a spokeswoman for the Mariposa County Sheriff’s Office, told the Mercury News of San Jose. “As far as what led up to it, that’s done by the National Park Service.”

The travel-obsessed couple detailed their lives in a now-deactivated travel blog called "Holidays and Happily Ever Afters,” where they wrote about vacations and posted photos of themselves in locales around the world.

Very sad. Accidents happen. You hope people exercise caution.

Yosemite is a beautiful park and a great place for Darwin nominations. They feature aerial acrobatics, cliff divers, and speed swimming events numerous times a year on average.

I’ve never been to Yosemite. I’d be willing to bet, though, that it has one thing in common with the Grand Canyon and Yellowstone: there are signs all over the place warning people not to do stupid stuff.

I’m not sure why so many people now don’t seem to grasp that places like national parks aren’t Disneyland or movie sets and that if you aren’t careful you can actually DIE there.

Good points. Some people seem to lose common sense.

Being near the edge of a cliff is dangerous. Add alcohol to that and it’s stupid.

““A lot of us including yours truly is a fan of daredevilry attempts of standing at the edge of cliffs and skyscrapers, but did you know that wind gusts can be FATAL???” Moorthy wrote. “Is our life just worth one photo?” Sean Matteson, a Yosemite visitor from Oakland, said he noticed Moorthy around sunset at Taft Point, saying she stood out because of her bright pink hair.“She was very close to the edge, but it looked like she was enjoying herself,” Matteson said. “She gave me the willies. There aren’t any railings. I was not about to get that close to the edge.”

A few years ago I walked Four Mile trail from the valley floor to Glacier Point. Although the trail is well groomed, it is narrow in some spots with a 2000 foot drop. Not many selfie idiots back then, but I can only imagine what it’s like now. I did witness a woman with bad leg cramps who had to be rescued. I helped wheel her out on a gurney. A very difficult rescue. People need to be aware of their limitations and certainly alcohol mixed in is a recipe for disaster.

Not to mention injuries to the back, thighs, hips, knees, calves, ankles, feet, toes ...
