Sounds like a peacenik x-box armchair commando.
Oh for the good old days of good old search and destroy patrols. Get in the mud, blow up and kill stuff.

So...you prefer the Bill Clinton method.

But what if the Taliban won’t wear the blue dress?

Nothing can replace having people on the ground to see what is going on. If you have no military experience, please don’t try to be an armchair General. (Retired Army Officer)

Why not avoid attacking sound military doctrine, and work on formulating sound national strategy so that the patrols have viable, achievable military objectives that objectively contribute to national strategy?
Said the former Joint Staff policy wonk.

I second that.

Patrolling at irregular intervals is a key element in any comprehensive security plan.

Hmm. Okay.
The problem we have is that everything is relegated to roads. That is great if you’re the ambusher, but not so cool if the ambushee.
Get off the road, retain freedom of maneuver. Kill the bad guys from advantage not liability.

If you dont patrol you are asking for it. If you have a base you have to patrol or the enemy always has the initiative, a bad way to fight .

It seems very stupid to be doing patrols that leave troops open for a suicide attacks at this point. As soon as I heard the troops would be pulled out slowly I knew there would be dead Americans as a result. There are a lot of people that want us to stay there, and who have no regard for life. I mentioned how bad it was going to be for the families that were relieved to hear of the pull out, only to face their worse nightmare not long after. A lot of people knew it was coming. I don't trust any of the neocons involved at this point.
