China hopes to be growing potatoes on the moon ‘within 100 days’

The 18cm high aluminium alloy cylinder - called a moon surface micro-ecological circle - contains silkworm eggs and seeds for potatoes and cress. Chinese scientists now hope both plants will root and sprout in the container, producing the first flower ever grown on the space rock.

They hope to see the results towards the end of a 100-day experimental period, according to the country's space agency. Last night, they announced their first breakthrough publishing a picture of cotton seed, bought up on Chang’e 4 actually growing.

China hopes to be growing potatoes on the moon ‘within 100 days’

With all the spacecraft NASA has landed on the moon and Mars they have never sprouted anything that I can remember. With Mars I am sure it is contamination fears, but they could do it in a sealed container. This is great PR for China, growing stuff on the moon.

I think it is a message - we’re not visitors - we’re colonists.

Isn’t it about 100 deg below zero on the moon? How is a super-frozen seed going to sprout?

The moon has 1/8th the gravity of the Earth.

So, anything grown on the moon will automatically be diet food, which means that people will only gain 1/8th the weight as they normally would from food grown on Earth.

All the fast-food restaurants will be racing to be the first on the moon.

So, while China colonizes the moon and beyond, the U.S. is still riding shotgun via Russian rockets & pushing Muslim ‘outreach’?

Damn, the once-(great-)Republic is swirling faster than I thought

Seems to me the only thing they are experimenting with is growing stuff in 1/6 Earth gravity. As for moisture, temp and light, that's totally controllable within the growing environment provided by the spacecraft.

Soon we will hear the moon was once part of china via a land bridge so it belongs to them. Then they will start a potato farm so they can make Vodka which in turn will be used to control the Russians. Devious minds at work.
